Urgent - suicidal note

Hey,

I want to make sure I am doing the right thing.

If you got a note with a heavy suicidal scent from a buyer saying "I have nothing to live for/I wish I was dead ASAP" - what would you do?

"When you are dealing with a person in crisis who is suicidal you do not have that luxury to cross your Ts and dot your Is.  You need to get him help fast and then let the authorities and the doctors sort it out afterwards."

Immediately contacting your police, and letting them make the appropriate calls.

Yes you contact the authorities, the police, but the ones who can get to this person the quickest which would be the ones in her hometown.

I'm certain a local police department, can forewarn a police department in a different State,
quickly than a private individual can.  And they'll be believed more too.

You call  your police.  (Googling recommends calling your local 911)

They review the message.

They contact the distant police department.

for local and online suicide threats, all I read is to contact your Local authorities.

You would be correct. There would be a faster response if another LE agency called in and made the request.

If I may just point out something to both of you here that I have not seen mentioned...

If you dial 9-1-1, you'll get your own police department or emergency line (obviously). You can't directly dial that person's emergency number anyway. The best you could do would be to look up their direct-dial non-emergency number on-line someplace, hope that someone answers, explain the issue to that person, and hope that they can re-route your call, or otherwise relay your info to their emergency services. 

It would be a much better use of your time to call your own 9-1-1, explain it to them as quickly and clearly as possible, and then let them reach out to the other person's local PD via whatever resources they have to do so (and I have no doubt that they can).

It appears they all recommend flagging that post to Them, (it will be expedited)

and They will take the appropriate steps, and make the contacts to help that person.

Is that person in the same city as you, then yes call local.

Is it someone on line and you do not have his address, yes call local as they will have to trace it.

But you have the name and address of that person threatening it.  Then you call those closest to that person so they can get to him as soon as possible in which to treat him before it is too late.

Yes, you call 911 and give them the address where the crisis is occuring.  You do not give them your address.

The link that was posted upthread.  That would be for a person online threatening suicide and you have no clue where he lives.  That is not the same when you know that person's address.

My question again is - when you are dealing with people on social media are they friends or cyber friends.

If the latter you cannot give their address to the authorities because you do not know it.

So your local police need to somehow trace it.

It's already been stated here,

having :Your local law enforcement, call Their local police

is quicker and will be taken with more credibilty.

And not all online suicide threats are valid threats.

The police should be the ones to decide that.
