Hello Community,
We want to make the Community a safe and enjoyable place for all to come participate and learn from one another. The Community team has recently updated the Community Guidelines. You can find them here.
I'll keep this post up for until the end of day on July 6th for feedback on the Guidelines.
Thank you for participating in Community!

This is something I've brought to sheila@ebay attention before regarding the off topic issue. If that is meant to say that if a topic goes off the very specific topic the OP started the thread about, as they so often do. Usually it is because there is a good reason for it and it is important to the discussion at hand.
For example a seller comes to the boards concerned about requests for returns they have recently been receiving. That discussion and easily turn to talking about the different types of return policies and what that means to the seller and the buyer. Or maybe to listing structure or even picture quality and more. While some may be seen as off topic they really aren't.
Then there are others that stray to a completely different topic, that is true. Some briefly and some do tend to take over the thread.
Sometimes if you aren't following the entire discussion it is hard to say what is on topic or related enough and those posts that are completely on a different subject. Not including some comedy relief that we all need from time to time on many discussions.
@mam98031 Levity seeping in to any conversation is pretty normal, I've experienced that over many years in business ... I think what the Guidelines will do is allow members to report and target those individuals who intentionally hijack a thread to talk about their mom's brother's sister's cousin's pet iguana that scared their neighbor's parent's egg laying chickens out of the chicken house ...

I'm confident that is how most of us would like to see that rule be applied, but we won't know until they get to applying it. This one is also not a new rule but was rarely applied one way or another.

Sometimes, we learn a lot about each other in an OT thread....
Pika's "what's in a name/your name" comes to mind with many, many posters sharing the history of their user name. Great thread, actually....one of the best!

The other issue of course is that in our Settings we can have the posts on a thread oldest to newest or reversed. I love those people who say stuff like "see my post #23" ... duh, # 23 can be one of two depending on how one has their settings ...
Right; the sequential numbering depends on, um, the sequence that was selected, so for example, your post to which I'm replying here is #192 when sorting from oldest to newest, but (currently) #9 when sorting from newest to oldest.
The way to avoid this is to instead use the unique link that is assigned to each post and each reply, and you find that by clicking on the Message Number of your post in that little "Message nn of nnn" footer line.
Although the Message Number is not colored as a link, it actually is one, and when you click on it, it opens a new page with that specific message at the top. You can use that as a link when referring others to it, and it will always get them there regardless of the order in which they are reading replies.
The link to your post here, for example, is this:
https://community.ebay.com/t5/Selling/Updated-Community-Guidelines/m-p/33047325#M2029038
...and you can bookmark it that way for your own future reference, or use it as a link for others, regardless of however many other replies appear or disappear in the meantime.

The person asking for clarity on the issue from those that wrote it is correct in doing so. To date I have asked many questions about policy using the written word as the reason for the question. I never get a 100% answer. This policy change is a potential for being kicked off the site. Its not an insult to any Seller or Buyer to ask those that drafted a policy to answer that Sellers question. The question is on point. When you get answers from CS that "well how you are reading it is not how is is intended" you have to be carful. The written word always trumps the spoke word.

Funnily strange as I was dead serious about the snoring. Reason being is no adult should EVER need a nap. I did, after a 10 hr work day and 3 hrs on the LA Cali Freeways, I would 'fall asleep' for a second on the road, luckily doing 5 mph, and 'awoke' before hitting the car in front of me. Get home and 'take a nap'
I was 40. I thought that was a "40" thing.
Long story short, sleep study, sleep apnea, CPAP Machine and now I'm 60 and haven't needed a nap in 20 years. I was 160 lbs and when I had the study, the techs there said "your not big-we're used to 400lb+ people here".
I would never get into REM sleep and would have up to 60 "dying- I'm not breathing because I am snoring/choking" events....per hour.
So, already too long to say long story short- anyone under 100 that needs a nap after a 6 hr night, probably has Sleep Apnea and needs a CPAP machine.
Snoring is the key symptom.
Sleep study is the answer.
By the way, my 31 yr old son just had a sleep study. Same issue, over 60 issues an hour. Got a machine. 200 lb person. They now do it via 'remote' and give you the stuff to do the 'study' at home in 1 night.

Wow!!
I am a Mom, have been told I do not snore ( who knows?), have been exhausted since DS was born and could nap every single day if I could find the time !! 😄
Lots of people want to retire and go fishing or play golf or travel the world......I just wanna have time to take a nap!

I'm with you on that. We are not all alike. I couldn't nap when the kids lived at home no matter what their age was. If they saw me sitting on the couch and my eyes were closed, they would come up with some serious need that I had to pay attention to right that moment. Mom's are just suppose be available 24/7 and no need for rest or relaxation. Unfortunately they don't seem to understand that until they are much older or when they have kid of their own.
The flip of that is if Dad had his eyes closed. Those kid's inside voices went to silent and they tip toed back to their rooms or something to remain quite until Dad woke up on his own. They would never dream of waking him. Funny thing was that he never got mad at the kids if they accidentally woke him. Not one time when they were little. So I'm unsure how or why they were so careful when he napped.

Oh, my! I have been guilty of this. I set up my preferences so long ago that I forgot that they are my own settings, not the default settings. Duh, indeed! Thanks for the reminder, and I will mend my ways.

I think that when a person comes here for help, it would be helpful if they saw a message about the responders. Something like: the community is a network of buyers and sellers who volunteer their time and experience to help. It is not filled with shills, cheerleaders, trolls...

Typically members don't start the name calling until they don't like the advice or facts that the other poster presented. It is merely a way to try and dismiss what the other member said.

You getting any of this, Sheila?

Many posters only "read" (hear) what they want and most (not all) do not search to see if there is a recent thread regarding their situation at hand.
I think your idea is great one - just not certain anyone would actually take the time to read it, if they do not post her regularly. Which is unfortunate.
