Update: Promoted Double Charges/Fees

Message I received from Devon regarding promoted charge issue posted on 6/6. This is for all those affected by "charges or double charges for promoted listings months after sales"

Devon stated:

There is an open ticket for sellers being charged for a promoted listing fee for any item sold months ago under ALERT15992. If there are any sellers that have had this happen, please let them know to reach out to customer support and have their account along with the order number added to the ticket as an example.

So if you were one of those many ... this is for you!

Kiks

Here's the latest update in the other thread. Doesn't sound like anyone will be refunded.

Re: Update: Promoted Double Charges/Fees

Hello everyone.

We have received a response from the Team handling this and here is what they have said:

"We recently discovered a system error which led to missed ads attribution and charging for certain sales promoted with the general campaign strategy that occurred from clicks across our Recommendations section. This error has been corrected as of May 8. If your account was one that was affected by this error we apologize for the delay in charging and any inconvenience this may have caused."

elizabeth@ebay Why don't you proactively update the sellers about the system error that you fixed on May 8th? What is stopping you?

@campanaelia

Why would they be refunded for a fee that was charged to them once, but late.  What would be refunded?  Did I miss something?

Re: Update: Promoted Double Charges/Fees

Nope - you got it right.  People were charged late - not double charged.  In the aftermath of the wave of back charges, eBay told folks to submit tickets for overcharges, but, upon further research, it was found that the charges were legit.  That’s what my own research on my own late charges showed.  Simple enough for sellers to assume that those were duplicate charges.  Even checking might give a false positive - easy to misread or misunderstand the transaction details.

Sorry, but that is ridiculous.  Charges were legit.  Late, sure, and not good news for sellers.  It is a bit like a bank error - they can reverse those when they discover the mistake.  It isn’t like you are allowed to keep the money.  Wasting the FTC’s time reviewing gripes is a waste of their time and our tax dollars.

@powell-collectibles  but how are sellers to know the charges were legit?

Bank errors usually at least provide information that would allow the account holder to verify if the charges are legitimately owed - that's not the case with Promoted Listings fees.

Not going to get into arguments about it, just providing information for anyone who may wish to use it to do so - if that's not you, feel free to scroll on by.

@powell-collectibles can you share your research with us so that we can also cross check if the charges are legit?

One has nothing to do with the other.  And the FTC has NOTHING to do with approving the parade.
