I sold something big last week.
Set up pickup on Wednesday and I got an email that it was picked up but here it still sits.
Set up for pickup on Thursday and I was here and personally talked to the carrier. "it's a big box I'll swing by when I'm back in the truck. Never saw her again.
Friday I was here and I personally carried it to the truck after they had to stop back to deliver a box.
I emailed the buyer and apologized but let her know it was on it's way.
Now it's sitting at the local post office. The truck gets back late since I'm on a route without a permanent carrier. It never got processed. Hopefully Monday.
Now it will start it's journey 5 days after it should have. All because the postal employees are too lazy to pick up a 18x18x18 box that wighs 10 pounds!
And for this 5 star service I paid the PO over $60 to ship it.

That is pretty poor service, especially since that isn't even that large a box. What are they driving?

It's kinda cute that you even tried to call the post office.

A call to the PO, to speak to the Postmaster, certainly seems to be appropriate here. Explain the situation and how as an Ebay seller this can have negative consequences for you, and ask that this be corrected on-going.

Wow how infuriating. Sorry you were treated so poorly.
I've never used that service, thankfully most of the small things I ship out I can put with my out going mail in my mailbox.
I noticed when I do this however, rather than taking them directly to the PO and having them scanned, it seems to take a few extra days to even get them into the system... so normally I would rather just run over to the post office to get them scanned in to be certain.

My PO doesn't even answer the phone, ever!

Wondering if UPS was an option and what that would cost?

I submit carrier pickup regularly, almost never have any trouble. When I do, I know it's a sub on the route. Had a pick up submission Friday with both packages sitting out right beneath my porch mailbox. When it was well past normal delivery time, I phone my PO. They said someone would be back out by 5P. 5P, comes and goes (which is the time my branch closes counter), I phoned again and they promised someone would still be out. 10 minutes later a carrier arrived and was very apologetic! Then a few minutes after that another carrier arrives. Couldn't get it picked up during regular time, then I get 2 carriers! The irony is the route carrier who failed to pick up the packages actually delivered mail to my box and ignored the pick packages beneath!!
I've had very few shipments lately, had a priority within Florida, was supposed to be 2 days, took 3. They missent the package to wrong unit, even though it was only 6 miles from final delivery area it got sent all the way back to the distribution center 35 miles away. Everything always goes the long way around! Seems I've had packages take detours about 15% of the time this year!! Not kidding. If the machinery is automated to read the bar codes and zip codes, I don't see how it could possibly be routed incorrectly! The belt should be tossing the package into the correct bin. My packages get to California quicker than they do within Florida! It's because of this nonsense I will never enroll in ebay guaranteed delivery. There's a better guarantee of it not arriving on time!

I too have experienced problems with substitute carriers, but I can reach my local P.O. and talk to the post master. I've had a truck come out or come back to pick up outgoing items a sub didn't pick up.
Since the cost of shipping your item sounds like you were sending it via Priority and you did schedule pick up, contact USPS customer service, and ask for a refund for the difference, between Parcel Select and Priority. I have done that a couple of times when things have happened. Even if you were shipping using standard not having the item picked up is something that needs addressing if your local postmaster isn't correcting the problem. There again the USPS customer service line can help. Postmasters can have a fire lit under their behinds, if they do not properly instruct their carriers. This applies to offices that do not answer their phones as well.
It is possible if you check tracking later today, that you might find it has moved past the local P.O. and sorting center. It may not have been scanned because it was late getting to your local P.O. but it should have gone forward on Saturday.

My carrier is the best. She scans as soon as she picks them up, and I never have to worry. Also I give her a tip at Christmas. You don't realize how much your carrier will appreciate that at Christmas. It shows that you appreciate the daily grind of delivering mail. But that is not why she is nice to me. She is just a great person too. She has been a carrier for 25 years. I know they say that your not suppose to tip, but that is just nonsence!
Call the Postmaster at the Zip where it was going and have your tracking number ready, so they can track it down.
