USPS APV and eBay Label Flow

Don't think I've seen this posted here in any of the APV threads. Just an FYI...

(yellow highlight added by me)

Been seeing it out of the corner of my eye but it didn't register and I didn't read it previously. Checked my records - it began 8/1/17 on schedule for the rollout.

The APV or Automated Package Verification is not going to roll out until August 15th - it was rolled back.

I think s/he is referring to the sellers that will be surprised because they haven't heard of the program, which has been announced for how long now? You know, the same sellers who are surprised that we can't leave negs and that an FVF is charged on shipping...

Ah yes, NOW I understand!  Thank you!

Re: USPS APV and eBay Label Flow

I understood the label and I explained the pricing discrepancy in the previous post. Sort of. Your buyer was charged for an 8ox First Class parcel at retail rates for some unknown reason.

Online commercial USPS First Class Package is up to 16oz through eBay and PayPal, Stamps, Endicia, and probably Amazon (never tried there). It is not available at USPS.com, so I don't know why USPS.com has entered the discussion here.

I still don't get the issue with the $6.65 and the $4.20, and then the 13oz package, but I'm getting an idea where your confusion is.

eBay uses whatever RETAIL rate is applicable to display on the label flow page as the postage cost so that your actual online commercial cost looks like a huge discount.

For the 14oz package, there is no RETAIL first class postage (retail first class only goes to 13oz), so the retail method would be Priority Mail in that case at $6.65. When you changed the weight to under 13oz, retail first class mail was then a valid analog, and eBay likely showed you $4.29 (retail cost of 13oz pkg) as the postage cost, and $2.77 as your actual online discounted cost.

Here is an excerpt from a 16oz First Class Package label I printed recently:

ebay_label_flow_16oz_FCM_price.gif

Everything there is correct. eBay shows the $6.65 as it is the only available retail option at 16oz (or 15oz, or 14oz as there is no retail First Class mail at weights above 13oz)

Here is a First Class Package 5oz shipment:

ebay_label_flow_5oz_FCM_price.gif

There it shows $2.85 for the postage cost (the retail First Class Mail price), and $2.77 as the online discounted amount. That is all correct also.

eBay shows retail pricing as the "postage cost" to give us warm fuzzies about how much they are saving us.

One last note: the $6.65 amount appears as the retail PM postage cost for all zones - I was wrong in the previous message thinking it was Z1&2. They don't use the zipcode and adjust it as I thought.

Doesn't matter anyway - it's only there as a reference for eBay to show how much they are "saving" you and you need to just ignore it.

The $3.39 (8oz FC Mail retail price) your buyer was charged is a thing though, and I have no ideas on that.

Re: USPS APV and eBay Label Flow

Have you actually read and understood anything I wrote above?

And if you did, does it look like I don't know about the APV?

Did you miss the part where I stated that I was aware of the program a long time ago but posted the screenshot because it seemed like it hadn't been seen here before?

Re: USPS APV and eBay Label Flow

@berserkerplanet  Yes ALL your numbers seem to be correct and make sense and are most likely what SHOULD have been when I clicked on the Print Label button on the Sold item.  Let me clarify what might be the confusing part ... the pic I posted (again for your convenience) is exactly what I saw before I changed anything ... the listing itself must have had the 14 oz package weight because that is what the label form opened up with (below, just as you see it) ... what you see is exactly what I saw when I clicked the Print Label button.

-Buyer paid $ 3.39

-eBay Charged $ 6.65 and with a discount (40%) my cost was to be $ 4.02

-Package weight 14 Oz

-Shipping method First Class Package

When I actually package the item its new weight was under 13 oz when I put that value in the weight window all the numbers for my postage cost recalculated ... meaning the $ 6.65 and $ 4.02 changed to a First Class rate that was LESS then what the Buyer paid.  Does that clear it up?

Re: USPS APV and eBay Label Flow

I don't know how to explain this any differently - you don't seem to be understanding retail vs online rates, and that the $6.65 has nothing to do with this.

eBay did not charge $6.65 for the 14oz package - that $6.65 is a retail number put there to demonstrate the cost if you paid for retail postage at the post office counter. Ignore it. It means nothing. It isn't a bug. It isn't an issue. It isn't relevant. And I already explained above why the retail number decreased when you changed the pkg weight to 13oz or less.

Your buyer did not pay more than the label cost if your changed weight was 13oz. 13oz online First Class pkg rate is $3.88 and you said your buyer was charged $3.39

Can someone else try to explain this?

No need for further explanation ... I understand it ...
