UPS Shipping Labels

I just recently started selling again after registering for managed payments.

Ebay is now charging me a hidden fee of $17.xx for  a shipping UPS label.

In other words the charge is for creating the shipping label.

I called and reported it and was told being looked into and in the interm to use USPS or FEDEX.

Anybody have this issue?

We spent a lot of time on this until we gave up on Ebay fixing it.....It was exactly $16  ( as long as you had correct dims, weights etc) because $16 is the exact charge UPS surcharge or value added service charge was based on their surcharge rates on their website  ( in simple terms is said any package over 20lbs had a $16 surcharge, on top of the advertised rate) . Keep in mind that this is UPS rules and the UPS calculators would not show a surcharge because it was included on the quote. ( Ebay did not have this functionality to add the $16 surcharge on their quote).   This was true until at least 4/1/2021 when UPS changed this  ( I recall they no longer charged the flat $16 but switched to dim weight base surcharge etc) . We informed ebay about it earlier than 4-21 because the "add $16 surcharge"  would not necessarily work when UPS implemented their changes on 4/21 .  If you review our post in December ( link above) we have actual examples with estimates and actual ALL at $16 and these were all different weights and sizes over 20 pounds.

Then why not just use ebay labels for the USPS and get the discount?  The only time I ship using UPS is if I go there in person.  I have never used FedEx for shipping.

By luck of the random universe I have a neighbor who works for the post office in my city.

You may be correct. But, I ship a lot over 20 pounds and I get the charge on one out of 20-25 packages. What is ironic is that when it happens it will be 2-3 packages in a row and both FedEx and UPS.....not just one. Makes now sense. I keep telling Ebay that if they will tell me how to correct it i the future I will pay what I owe...otherwise they owe me a refund. Sometimes I have to call back 2-3 times but they have up until now always given me a "courtesy 1 time credit".....

Supplemental charges from UPS are a thing that has been an issue for at least 40 years. Look up the pages at UPS.com and you'll find pages of reasons for these charges.

Doesn't really matter if you use UPS via eBay or have your own UPS account they love to tack on these extra charges. If you have your own account you will at least get details of what the charges are for and if you have your own sales rep you may have better luck getting them reversed.

When you buy services from UPS through a third-party (eBay in this case) you are pretty much out of luck.

Stamps.com who dumped their exclusive arrangement with USPS and now offer UPS indicate that their quoted charges are final with no add-ons after the fact. Not sure how true it is as I don't use UPS very often and when I do it's always on through my own account.

Never cost effective to use USPS on anything of substantial size or weight ( that does not fit in a flat rate package)  as USPS can be 3-4 time more expensive than UPS / FEDEX even with the hidden fees

Yep same here, but they do not know how to fix it or how to estimate correctly. From our experience UPS and FEDEX are almost always near same price for a given size and weight. So when you see UPS $35 and Fedex is $51  you can almost bet that UPS will come back with a surcharge that brings it to $51 when all said and done.  We still try UPS at $35 but all have been surcharged to $51 for us.

EXACTLY the same thing I have noticed. But, I have found UPS will come back to like 53....just more than FedEx was....makes me think it was on purpose to use them. Either way, Ebay has the legal duty to provide us with a detailed cost breakdown....they cannot and when you point that out to them they will give you a
"Fee Credit".....they know exactly what is going on and how to fix it. I bet it is part of the bad or shady deals they have made with UPS and FedEx. I just had one from FedEx that I paid $12 for.....they added $18 surcharge to make it 30 total. I had my retail store run the cost when I was there..... $24. So, the fee makes ZERO sense unless it is a scam.
