Turbo Lister latest situation

Hi, I'm wondering if Turbo Lister is going to function. I've used it for years. And I just realized eBay announced to shut it down 2 years ago. I'm still using is and it works fine. There is still updates. But I've heard Turbo Lister will be shut down after this February? Can anyone confirm it?

eBay’s current advice is that sellers should switch to using the new tools in Seller Hub. Whilst these are adequate for basic listing activities, the one thing that Seller Hub still can’t do is store your old listings for an indefinite period of time so that you can relist them when stock comes in again.

Storing old listings is key to many seller’s businesses, for instance you may have just ended most of your listings for Christmas decorations (hopefully because you’ve sold out!), but you may well wish to list the same Christmas decorations in the run up to Christmas 2019. Seller hub will have long lost your listings by then which is why TurboLister was so loved, as it would have them all safely stored and sellers could file old listings in a separate folder for future use.

Doing a Google search may return a download for Turbo Lister, though that will likely be an out-of-date version and we don’t recommend downloading it through a Google search. Our Advanced Apps team does still offer support for Turbo Lister, though this will end when the full retirement of the tool takes place. The Advanced Apps team can help sellers download Turbo Lister if needed and this is generally used for current users that need to reinstall the program. Since the current plan is to retire the tool, we don’t typically recommend sellers start using it now as support will eventually be discontinued.”

Thank you for the information.  Once you have TL downloaded to your computer, you can run an update to bring it to the most current version.  I suspect Ebay states this so that members don't go out and locate that download because Ebay doesn't currently recommend use of the software.

There are lots of us out here that use the program and most likely will until the day Ebay takes it away, if they ever do that.  Who knows.  We just have to wait to see what Ebay decides to do and from there we get to decide what we need to do to best support our business.

eBay have confirmed that TurboLister will be fully retired across their European sites including the UK at some point in the next month. This means that if you are still using TurboLister you need to find an alternative solution. If you don’t have alternative plans in place, one day you’ll arrive at work to find that your favourite eBay listing tool simply doesn’t work any more.

eBay were responding to a seller in their weekly chat when they announced next month as the final end of Turbolister. They announced the retirement of the listing tool a couple of years back in 2017 and although it was removed from eBay UK for new downloads, the tool continued to work for those who already had it installed.

“TurboLister will be retired on the European eBay sites next month. We don’t have any new details about other sites though (such as the .com site). Until further communication is provided, sellers that have Turbo Lister will be able to continue to use it on the .com site.”
– Brian, eBay Community Chat, 23rd January 2019

Brian added that in addition to ending support in Europe, the tool isn’t recommended for users in the US on eBay.com even if they manage to find the download link which can still be found via external search engines. Although we know the page to download versions of TurboLister with a full set up for your country of choice, we would have to echo eBay’s advice not to as it will cease to work at some point in February.

No one here is trying to argue this point with you.  But most of us here if not all of us on this particular thread are US sellers.  This does not affect us at this time.

And no one is trying to argue with you about the point that Ebay doesn't "recommend" anyone to go to an external site to download the program.

All of this is very true.  But that doesn't mean it doesn't work or that if a seller chooses to do it that they can't.  It just means that Ebay would prefer we didn't.

There are lots of things that Ebay recommends.  Some things they recommend work well for some sellers and others not so much.  It is always important to take everything into consideration before deciding what will work best for you.

TL is still working, still minimally supported and some of us use the heck out of it.  Others don't use it and some simply don't like it.  We each have our own opinions of TL.  But the fact is that if you want to use it as a seller you can.  The SH is no where near capable of replacing it yet.  But hopefully one day it will be.

Yes, that is what we have been trying to explain to you.  With that said, I'm glad you understand that the announcement you posted was not for the US site and that we are still in limbo, as this is a very important thing to many sellers.  And it could have a huge affect on some sellers, so accurate information on this subject is very important.  I know you respect that.

OP, Brian at Ebay also states, to confirm:

We don’t have any new details about other sites though (such as the .com site)

Another good place for info is the weekly Chat; it is every Wednesday, 1:00 Pacific Time, and it lasts for an hr each week.  The Community Team, Ebay employees, also called Blues answer questions.  It may be on General Topics or it may be a specific topic.  You can find the Chat by finding the thread on it on the Selling Board and you can access past Chats by clicking on Inside Ebay, then weekly Chats.

I'm getting in the last word - OP - you've received great information from great Sellers as far as Turbo lister. It's demise was announced years ago but many sellers still use Turbo and will continue to do so until Ebay announces that it will be discontinued. I'm am sure Ebay will give sellers enough of a head's up so that they can find alternate sides to use after it's demise.

I hope that they do not shut down TL as I find it great for keeping track of my descriptions and the timeline of when I last posted an item ( I keep my pictures on my computer). I got the survey and gave them 5 different suggestions for improvements ( I wish I had written them down ). Then, at the end of the survey,I find out that they were thinking of charging between 4.99 to 9.99 a month. As I do not use the tool to actually list my items (just for keeping track of my inventory), and being a small seller, I could not see paying out more money  besides the sellers fees, pay pal fees, postage (which keeps going up),etc, etc, etc.

So, on one hand eBay was going to keep it going if they could make money off of it and now that that is not going to happen, they are going to discontinue it ?? And if I am not mistaken, Sellers Hub  I believe right now is free. What would happen if I uploaded all my data into it, and they decided later on to start charging for that. Hmmm

But after that survey, I am one step ahead of them. I have been in the process of keeping track of my inventory, descriptions and of course my pictures on my computer.

So while I will be disappointed if they discontinue it (and every time they have sent me a survey I have asked them to keep TL), I will not be caught without a system in place. All I will have left to figure out is keeping track of the timeline. As I said I am a small seller, so it won't be much more work.

Here is what I believe is a helpful hint for everyone who likes Turbo Lister as much as I do.

At one time, I did not understand how much of my hard drive space was being used up as I really was not storing that much on it at the time. I found out that TL was using the a lot of the space to store pictures (multiple pictures of the same items).

I changed a setting and now my hard drive space is not disappearing like it use to.

Open up TL, go to the tools/options and change the EPS picture storage from"copy pictures to folder within Turbo Lister directory  to save pictures withing Turbo Lister database.

The link to download it is gone and they have said they will stop supporting it.

The Seller Hub does not have all the functionality of TL yet, but Ebay has said that it will.  Some really like the Seller Hub, others don't.

You may want to try it to acclimate yourself and see if you like it as your first alternative.

Good Luck, OP.

The link to download TL is still available if you Google it.

Ebay is STILL supporting TL for US sellers.  That has NOT stopped and Ebay has NOT announce when it will stop.

The Seller Hub currently has NO ability to do the things that TL does.  Acclimating yourself to the Seller Hub will do nothing for the OP as the SH does not offer what TL offers.  Which is exactly why Ebay has not retired TL yet.

Currently SH is NOT an alternative.  Ebay has said that one day it will be, but that day hasn't yet arrived.  But the Spring Seller Update is due out later this month, so maybe there will be something in that to tell us what Ebay's plans are.

Hi @mam98031! I just wanted to jump in and clarify that downloading Turbo Lister from Google is not something we advise, as Google will typically provide an out-of-date version of the tool. This version won't have the most recent updates and likely won't update properly after the download.  Since the tool will eventually be fully retired, we don't suggest members start using Turbo Lister if they have not already been using it.

An official download for Turbo Lister is not publicly available on our site. Current Turbo Lister users can contact Turbo Lister customer support if they need to reinstall the tool for any reason (for example, on a new computer, or if an uninstall and reinstall is needed). That team can provide a current download for those members.

Hi @brian0318jazz! I wanted to confirm what others have stated in this thread, which is that while Turbo Lister will be fully retired on most of the EU eBay sites this month. It will not be fully retired on the eBay.com (US) site just yet. You will be able to continue using Turbo Lister on the eBay.com site until a full retirement is announced.

I used it years ago and look forward to using it again. It's a great tool. Thanks for keeping it around!
