The fact that NO ONE AT EBAY will answer how long this (Transaction defect rate BELOW STANDARD) remains on the sellers account means to us that EBAY can now confiscate more money from the sellers FOREVER. If we are wrong will someone please enlighten us :o(

Your 'rating' is looked at monthly. It's all done by percentages; the more you sell, the smaller that 'defect rate' gets. 'Defects' are held for 1 year unless you have 400 transactions in a 3 month period, then 3 months.

So it looks like we are correct. Another way for EBAY to screw the seller out of more money!!

No it is not another way for eBay to "screw" sellers out of more money. Ebay wants sellers to meet certain guidelines for customer service. Sellers that don't meet the customer service guidelines hurts all sellers. If buyers have too many bad experiences they won't come back.

We as sellers should be able to give ebay defect rates with all of the glitches that occur on a daily basis. If we could do this, ebay would get some pretty bad ratings. Unfortunately, ebay just doesn't care.

It is right on the policy page for Seller Standards - it isn't hidden:
https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/selling-policies/seller-performance-policy?id=4347
What's eBay's performance evaluation period?
We evaluate your performance every month. The length of time we look at in each evaluation depends on how many recent transactions you've had. If you've had 400 or more transactions in the last three months, you're evaluated over that three-month period. If you've had fewer than 400 transactions in the last three months, you're evaluated on the past 12 months. These timelines help us make sure we're evaluating you as fairly as possible.

For the average seller a year, unless you sell more than 400 or more per quarter it is 3 months.

In a nut shell, you stay below standard until in the next evaluation you are no longer below standard.
Depending on the reason why and sales, you could remain there forever!

My Seller Rate has been affected adversely by items not sent on time during posted vacations. I only just learned that in addition to posting a vacation or away notice you have to go and bulk edit the handling time on every store item. I have been going away routinely over the years and this is the FIRST time I got this information!
Can they go back and fix it? No, even though I was repeatedly told that just as long as I had the vacation notice on I didn’t have to do anything else!

Sorry you learned this the hard way, but when you put it 'on vacation', it tells you right then and there that you are STILL RESPONSIBLE for "Business as Normal" (Paraphrasing). So, you have to change the 'normal'.
It may not come right out and tell you what you have to do because there are a couple options. Block all sales (For buy it now's) or change your handling time to compensate for how 'late' you will be.

I don't know if it is still possible to talk to someone by chat but that is how I was able to correct this problem a few months ago. This way you have a record of the conversation and what the rep told you. It is sent to your email as proof. They corrected my account. IF that is still available I would try that and demand to talk to a supervisor, that is exactly what i did and it was fixed in minutes.
