Why is the buyer always right and the seller always wrong? This is my latest ordeal with eBay. Item sold 12/30/2020, item shipped 12/31/2020, item delayed because of USPS issues, buyer opens case and eBay refunds money, item delivered 3/11/2021, buyer will not pay for item or send item back, called eBay and was told they will do nothing. I was told it's my job to try and talk the buyer into making things right.
If eBay can put a hold or take money from my account without me having any say in the matter why won't they do the same for buyers? Without us sellers there would be no eBay yet we get treated like a piece of **bleep**.
I get screwed over with things like this a few times each year. The buyer is ALWAYS right and can do no wrong. We can't even leave them negative feedback no matter what they do 😞

3 months for delivery?

Sucks, but unfortunately that is how eBay plays. They are more buyer friendly than seller friendly. Hopefully the seller will realize and submit payment as that is the rightful thing to do, but i wouldn't hold my breath for that to happen.
3 month+ for delivery, I'm curious on the condition of item, if it is a fragile one.

Not 3 months but 9+ weeks. Not my fault so why won't eBay make the buyer pay for the item or send it back?

9 weeks for delivery. Not fragile, you might even hurt yourself trying to destroy it.

Almost 2.5 months it takes for USPS to deliver your item. Yikes! Things are going to get even worst for sellers using USPS, due to the JOKE of a New Postmaster General at the helm:

I hope you offered to send him a label to return your item.
Your buyers refusal to pay you or to send the item back may be based on his belief ( Not necessarily correct0 that you have been compensated by USPS.
Buyer opened an INR case past the expected delivery date and no doubt eBay allowed an additional 7 to 10 days for your postal service provider to attempt delivery or to make the delivery.
At the expiry of this period eBay had no choice other than to close the case with a refund to buyer and at this stage depending on postal service you chose to use and if cover was in place then you should have made a claim to recover your cost of item and postage from USPS as they were in breach of their agreement with you.
Had your buyer opened an INR case through his Bank, Credit card or Pay Pal outcome would have been the same FULL refund to buyer because you could not prove that delivery had been made.
I am a seller and I have understood that eBay is only a platform and all transactions are between me and buyer and I choose postal service provider, postal service and they enters into an agreement with me and failures or success are ours and not eBay's.

I get that but... if eBay can hold funds and issue credits without me (the seller) having any say in the matter why can't they do the same when a seller is getting the shaft?

No, eBay can't take money from the buyer because their item finally arrived. There was an expected delivery date in the listing. If it's not received by that date the buyer can get a refund and get to keep the package if it ever arrives.
SMART sellers use USPS Package Intercept when they are forced to refund. That way the package is returned to you instead of going out for delivery. Then you don't have to worry if your buyer is honest and will do the right thing.

No, that would be the DUMB thing to do as a seller because I would have made a negative profit.

Because they can't.
You picked the shipping service, so ultimately the responsibility is with you.
9 weeks is still far too long.

Hey, guess what? You still made a negative profit, so...

I can see your just as upset over this failed transaction as your buyer was. You could have drove to the Motor City and hand delivered in a day, 9 weeks to get there wow. Your package was clearly lost somewhere between G.B. and Detroit but eBay did what they had to do and that is refund.
Did you send your buyer an invoice after tracking shows it arrived? Have you contacted them? All you can do is try, if they pay that's good, if they don't, you'll have to move on.
It really is unfortunate that shipping took that long but as I remember correctly that Detroit hub had some major backup problems around that time.

Hey guess what? I would have been further in the hole taking your advice 😉
