Thumbs Down on eBay Authenticate!

So, I had a terrible experience with eBay Authenticate as I am now finding a lot of other sellers have similar experienced according to various blogs. After I sent in my purse and the item was posted, I had several concerns that I sent to eBay Authenticate. A person named Terrie responded saying that they were the project manager. In the end, due to my complaints, Terrie decided to fire me, remove the listing and send my purse back to me rather than address the concerns.

Hello,

I sent a PRADA “Papaya” Nylon Quilted Tessuto Impuntu Pattina Crossbody Bag in for authentication recently and have some concerns over the listing.

1 – The title of the listing posted by you is “PRADA Orange Nylon Quilted Crossbody Bag”. No where in the title does it reference “Papaya”, “Tessuto”, “Impuntu” or “Pattina”.

2 – The first four pictures have apparently been edited such that the item appears to be bright orange rather than Papaya in color. If you look at other listings for this same handbag, you will see that this one is far too orange and doesn’t represent the actual color.

3 – In picture 5 showing the inside of the handbag, there appear to be two black threads or something else in the bottom of the bag that make it appear to have significant ink markings inside the bag. It will never sell if someone thinks that the bag has been damaged with ink markings inside the bag.

4 – There are no pictures showing the handbag with the original tags, certificate of authenticity, original box that was included or the dust cover.

5 – I am genuinely concerned that eBay are using a seller who have multiple negative feedbacks citing poor communication, item not as described and shipping to the wrong address and with missing parts. This will also affect the ability to sell the item.

Please advise on what you plan to do to resolve these issues.

Re: Thumbs Down on eBay Authenticate!

So they don't just "authenticate" the bag, they actually take over all the listing as well?

Just ebay valet in disguise then.
Reality is the leading cause of stress.

Re: Thumbs Down on eBay Authenticate!

This isn't Ebay, it is a member Board.

Sorry you had a bad experience with this.  I thought Authenticate just authenticated the item for you, and you would list it.

Yep and the group they have in charge gets horrible feedback, everything fro. missing items to selling fakes.

???

I reread the original post and couldn't find anything that implied the OP thought s/he was addressing eBay.

Re: Thumbs Down on eBay Authenticate!

Wait until your bag is returned and make sure it is your bag. This is nothing more than Ebay valet in disguise as another poster mentioned. No one I know or have followed is happy with the program. I'm not sure how much they were listing your bag for but doing a quick google search - all the words you mentioned should have been in the title because it is very specific and sold out on other venues. If a buyer were searching using those key words you mentioned - they'd never find it.

I'd suggest going to Ebay for Business on Facebook and rasing your concern about some of the members of the authenticate program and what their credientials are since appropriate titles and pictures weren't used for your item. Ebay is the one losing out on money each and every time a person gets disgusted with the program and pulls their items to sell elsewhere so you should get a response as well as connect with others who will comment on your post on Facebook with similar opinions.

The last line of the original post says, "Please advise on what you plan to do to resolve these issues," but I think that was addressed to Terrie at the Authenticate seller.

Re: Thumbs Down on eBay Authenticate!

Yes, it was confusing for me based on the way it is being marketed but when I asked who to address my concerns to, eBay Customer Service provide the email address, valet@ebay.com.  I had no prior experience with the valet program.  To this day I still don't know who is who.  All I know is: 1) that I recieved an email from eBay promoting the eBay Authenticate program, 2) the email address I was given by eBay customer service resides on the eBay email domain (ebay.com) and 3) that my handbag was posted on a third party eBay seller page that has multiple negative feeback for various reason associated with misrepresentation, shipping issues and communication issues.

Correct.  They autheticate, take pictures, list, sell and then issue you the profit from the sale minus their fee.  In theory and for many I am sure it is fabulous.  Didn't work out so well for me and many others based on blogs I have read regarding the program.

Re: Thumbs Down on eBay Authenticate!

What is the third party seller's id?  I looked everywhere through Authenticate FAQ and info and can't find any information about it.  Does ebay use different sellers or just one id?

Re: Thumbs Down on eBay Authenticate!

mam may know more about it but as far as I know - there is no list of who participates. At least the valet service we figured out who were selling the items - or at least some of the items.

Just posted to the eBay for Business Facebook page. Thank you for that suggestion!

Re: Thumbs Down on eBay Authenticate!

I agree with you. That last line of the original post was clearly part of the copied/pasted message the OP sent to eBay Authenticate.

"I had several concerns that I sent to eBay Authenticate . . . " which is then followed by the copied/pasted material.

Re: Thumbs Down on eBay Authenticate!

Terrie is the person who responded to the email that I sent to the valet at ebay dot com email address and said he was a project manager on the authenticate team. If he works for the seller account that is being used to list the items, it would make sense he would have fired me after I raised a concern about the online reputation of his firm. In any case, as eBay are promoting this program, they bear 100% responsibility for it in my opinion.
