Ok, so this automated policy enforcement is GARBAGE! I just caught a 3 day suspension because a BUYER GAVE ME HIS PHONE NUMBER and we finished our transaction on ebay through ebay. I ignored the message about his number and yet I still catch a **bleep** restriction? I called ebay and they don't care. They told me there is nothing they can do even though its painfully obvious that I DID NOTHING wrong.
Seriously, who else is strugging with this automated enforcement catching innocence?
Im to the point where I am about to flip the **** out. This is so frustrating.

The OP is the buyer who RECEIVED the telephone number. He/she is not the SENDER of the contact information.
Of course, the person who sent it is a BUYER, and you know eBay won't do anything to a BUYER.

That is why all these rumours keep floating around about suspensions. If the buyer sent the email the OP would not have a suspension "unless" there is more to the story as I said before.

@llllady Wasn't that just a simple typo? Didn't you mean the SELLER received the phone number from the BUYER?
The seller still completed the transaction ON ebay. Where's the problem here? What transgression did the seller commit? None, as far as I can tell.
so I think coolections, that you are assuming there is more to this story, unless the seller simply isn't being transparent about what transpired. It appears the seller was punished for no good reason at all, even made ebay commission off this sale. What's not to like ebay? You are now punishing sellers for making you money?

Yes I am and would be willing to bet on it. You are assuming there is nothing left out and it is true that a seller will get an automatic 3 day suspension just because a buyer messaged them. That is not going to happen without some sort of "other" circumstance that was not told by the OP. In fact, if this story was true there would probably be easily 100 sellers A DAY being suspended.

Good call-out! Yep, I got it backwards. Thanks for the catch! 🙂

Prove it.

If the seller was hiding other information then this would make sense. I however am not ready to trust the bots to rule the world. They're headless brainless and obviously flawed. We are told that suspensions will not occur without human oversight. But who believes that, in this very very busy season? Ebay doesn't have hundreds of employees sitting around doing nothing but reviewing messages between buyers and sellers. That's not happening. Can't even get well-trained customer service reps most of the time, a hundred calls will yield a hundred different answers, everybody knows it, it's no secret on ebay.
There's always a few over the top situations that occur everytime ebay rolls out a new program, and this seller could have indeed fell between the cracks and is completely innocent.

Also, if there is a policy that requires a specific message or text that the seller is supposed to reply with - where can that policy be found (and explained) on the site?
You recall correctly.
They just never promised that the real live person can read or understand the english language.

How do we know that there aren't?

There was a thread a bit back where a seller had the same situation.
He got a bot warning for off ebay sales, he had told the "buyer" it was aginst the rules for contact.
A blue came on and said the seller had done it the right way... but
that in these cases both parties get the warning, no matter who put the contact info in the message.
We were told a human reviews all bot take downs....
It is crazy, a seller has no way to know what is in a message.
I tried to send a fellow board member my ph a couple years back.
ebay would not let the message go through.
But it appears buyers can send contact info to sellers, and the innocent seller gets the hit.
11-28-2017 06:59 AM
But you are talking about a warning which everyone knows that is true. It is just a simple statement letting a buyer or a seller know that what they are doing is against policy. That is different than a BOT handing out 3 day suspensions. This board would have 100 threads started by now of sellers complaining that they got a 3 day suspension if it was true that BOTS automatically hand them out.

cool, you're right. There is unknown information here. Such as, did the buyer send OP the phone number twice, in two separate messages? Has OP received, unsolicited, other contact information from other buyers?
If so, none of the above is OP's "fault."
I never, ever, ever believed the "human will review each situation" line. Never.
