Suspension For Spring Assisted pocket knives

Hello I recently got suspended for 3 days for having spring assisted knives. Now the rules

The following or similar types of knives aren’t allowed:
-- Automatic knives
-- Butterfly knives
-- Dual-action knives
-- Gravity knives
-- Out-the-front knives
-- Paratrooper knives
-- Push knives
-- Switchblade knives
-- Sword canes
-- Spring-assisted knives without clearly visible thumb studs or screws requiring manual movement
-- Hidden or disguised knives such as writing pen knives or belt buckle knives

It Dose not say

The following or similar types of knives aren’t allowed:
-- Automatic knives
-- Butterfly knives
-- Dual-action knives
-- Gravity knives
-- Out-the-front knives
-- Paratrooper knives
-- Push knives
-- Switchblade knives
-- Sword canes
-- Spring-assisted knives
-- Hidden or disguised knives such as writing pen knives or belt buckle knives

So clearly spring assisted knives are allowed as long as there's some type of thumb stud figure tab screw or something showing that you need to push on the blade to open the knife.

now at first i thought it was the fact i have the word butterfly or lipstick in title but that is a photo of butterfly and lip stick on handle the print not knife but now after Gloria tells me this

Hi Scott,

Gloria here from eBay Trust and Safety. I am just following up in relation to the removal of the listing for ITEMS- 325508582853- Pink Butterfly High Heel Spring Assisted Pocket Knife EDC Bottle Opener/ 324278207041 - Black Lipstick High Heel Spring Assisted Pocket Knife EDC Bottle Opener Ladies💖

Our Prohibited Items Team have gotten back to me, and after reviewing the listing, have confirmed that the removal will be upheld. This would be due to the fact that as stated in our knives policy, spring assisted knives where there is no manual movement of the blade with a thumb stud are prohibited. You can see more information in relation to this item here:

https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/prohibited-restricted-items/knives-policy?id=5047&st=3&pos=1&quer...

Based off of this, we ask that you do not re-list this item for sale, as further attempts to do so, will lead to the listing being removed, and further action taking place due to repeated breach of policy.

I know this is not the answer you were looking for, But I hope this information helps!

Thanks,

Gloria

and i put in for appeal then today its turned down because the knives are spring assisted i call and and explain but no one seems to get it so now I guess all spring assisted pocket knives are not allowed and i don't see that in rules I need HELP I need people to make change to these rules.

If in fact spring assisted knives are allowed anything showing manual movement is required like thumb stud or screw or figure tab or flipper tab or the back of the blade you pull on to open knife this should all be in the rules

PLEASE HELP

There's really nothing any one here can do for you.  We are all sellers like you are.  Wait out the 3 day suspension, it'll go quickly.  And don't relist that knife, as you are under Ebays radar now and they'll be watching.

Whether it may or may not be what Ebay found it to be,  it's their playground.  Again, don't relist it.

 Have a great day.

What kind of help can anyone here give you?  We do not set eBay policy or have any influence over it or its enforcement.

Few here will disagree with you that eBay policies on prohibited or restricted items are often vague and randomly enforced.  But nothing will change that and, indeed, eBay moves more in that direction all the time.

If yo want to sell that kind of knife, you will simply have to sell it somewhere else.

IMHO they told you not to relist it, and what would happen if you do.  So don't relist it.

You might just want to stay away from selling knives other than kitchen and chefs types.  Even a box cutter or standard utility knife used for cutting drywall could fall under that banned list.    Once eBay removes an item that do keep a record of it so, never relist it.

So far fully automatic electric knives are still allowed.   Ever seen what they can do to a turkey?

I've only sold three knife's and all three were collector pocket knife's. All Jeff Gordon memorabilia made by Case. Never got and notice by E-Bay or the U.S.P.S and the boxes were plainly labeled as having a pocket knife in-closed.

As to what you are selling, no idea's how to list and sell.

I sell vintage and modern knives as a full-time eBay seller. Knives and cutlery related items are all that I sell.

Almost all types of manual operating folding knives are fine to sell, as are fixed-blade or sheath knives.

It can be tricky or near impossible to list some types of knives if they even have the APPEARANCE of "switchblade" or automatic knives.  eBay's bots or evaluators do not differentiate on important details.

I have never listed functional automatic knives (although some people do it and get away with it).

I once listed a lot of several switchblade knives that were not operational as "auto" knives - they were essentially manual opening lockback knives but each did have the push button on the side. eBay ended the listing.

Whatever rules eBay has, they are never applied evenly, not by a long shot.

Many of the knives that I sell have handles made of cow bone (a common older material). Since I did not put the word "bovine" in front of bone, eBay suspended me for two weeks and I got nowhere with customer service.

Never mind that simple searches by category revealed over 30,000 listings on eBay of knives with bone handles, and 99.9% of them never use the word "bovine".  And never mind the fact that eBay's own Item specifics allow "bone" as a handle material with no qualifiers - just "bone", not "bovine bone".

I don't know anything about knives but I do know that you are probably not going to win this "fight".

I would accept what ebay says and just don't re-list/sell the knife here.

Don't risk getting a suspension.

Sell it elsewhere.

As others mentioned some of the eBay policies are a bit ambiguous and their application can be subjective at times. I have listed and sold a few knives on eBay but would never even think of listing anything using "spring" in the title or description. I sell those types on other forums and venues most of which are local.

I found one of these on the lawn last autumn before snow fell courtesy the airnbnb house next door and I kept it as a utility knife.  I suspect it was spring assisted knives that triggered the software.
