Sold Items Re-Listing

Help!

I keep selling items that have already sold.  I have over 2600 items in my store so this is not an easy problem to solve.

What to do??????

I would happily use the OOS function IF it could be applied listing by listing rather than globally.

I tried it for a while but just got tired of deleting many items which I have when sold as they're one offs.

The duplicate tool of ship's is great, but unfortunately won't catch sold items that have  relisted as there's (usually) only one appearing.

It really is a pretty easy clean up you could do weekly or monthly whatever is best for you.  Go to your Seller Hub, then active listings.  Sort them by quantity and then just check off the ones you need to delete and do it in a couple of keystrokes.

Re: Sold Items Re-Listing

All good suggestions (the dupe listing scanner works great), but doesn't address one fundamental problem with "ghost" listings - I've had several, and they never show up in my own listings, but they show up on the site. IMHO it's a database event causing an error on indexing, so it will not effect our own cohort of listings, just those on the site itself.

I've verified this by tracing two of these ghost listings (both of which I got an OOS defect for) and finding that they appeared as listings in my monthly invoice without in fact being initially listed (because, duh, it was sold, I didn't have one to list). A really easy one was a mouse that 'resold' 10 days after the initial sale - I wouldn't have relisted it because I no longer had it, and it hadn't been listed on the site itself for more than a week or two. Also, it was the only model of that mouse I had.

Why sort by quantity when you can use the out of stock filter? 😉

Under search filters, change from All Statuses to Out of Stock.

You can also sort by quantity, zero first.  Either way is fine, both work.

This isn't like due to duplicate listings.  This type of issue has been reported for years off and on by sellers.  They sell out of an item.  Then it mysteriously shows up again as an active listing.

What can be some reason that this can happen and how does a seller properly deal with these types of transactions when they happen to make sure Ebay is satisfied as well as the buyer.

Hey @mam98031 thanks for bringing this to our attention!  We've gone ahead and reported this issue to the appropriate team for review.  We'll be sure to share any updates here!

Re: Sold Items Re-Listing

Hey @snowyowlgoods would you be able to provide an item number from the original listing and the duplicated listing as well?  We're hoping to get a specific example to share with our developers.

I've only had this happen once but it definitely happens.

Two years (!!!) after I'd sold my last of an item in a certain color, I was notified of a sale of the item. Thinking it was my error, I contacted the buyer, offered a full refund PLUS a substitute of an identical item in a different color at my expense and the buyer was ecstatic. I avoided an OOS ding.

I looked through my messages, emails and listings and that sold-out item was NOT anywhere. (I manually end 30 day listings and then "sell similar" and this item had NOT been listed in 2 years. I then delete the ended/unsold items.)  It never showed up in searches of current, completed or sold listings since it had originally sold.

But ebay denies that "ghost listings" exist. I beg to differ.

Re: Sold Items Re-Listing

Yes, I do end items and sell similar.  I just checked the unsold folder and it is empty.

As of right now, I sold an item yesterday and it is showing as sold and active.

Here is an example of the dilemma.......

Re: Sold Items Re-Listing

Your screenshot @snowyowlgoods shows a listing that had 1 available. 1 sold so now 0 are available. The listing is still active because you're using the out of stock setting. If you want to turn off the out of stock setting go to this page:

https://www.ebay.com/uas/selling-pref

That out of stock listing cannot be purchased unless you increase the quantity, or unless you have a duplicate listing out there.

The other day you had 62 duplicates, which have all been cleaned up. I don't know if you've gone through your inventory to check for active items that may have previously sold through a duplicate.

Re: Sold Items Re-Listing

Thank you!!!!  Sheesh, I have no idea how that got turned on?  I went through and deleted the double listings. I will definitely turn off this option.

Thanks so mcc for your help!  I greatly appreciate it!

Re: Sold Items Re-Listing

Ghost listing has been going on for years.

I do not use multiples or sell similar.  I don't run good until canceled.  I upload new listing every month.  Always check for duplicates and I still get them.

The longest time between something sold and it reappearing in my store was 10 months.  I get 2 or 3 a year.   Fortunately, I sell common books and can usually find  a duplicate but it can be a real issue when I dont.

You're welcome @snowyowlgoods . If you want a quick way to see all your out of stock listings so you can delete any you don't plan to relist, here's a direct link to the OOS filter:

https://www.ebay.com/sh/lst/active?action=summary&status=OOS

If you don't manually delete, the listings will automatically end on their next renewal date since you turned off the OOS setting.

I suggest bookmarking the duplicate listing scanner I linked to the other day so you can run periodic scans.
