Social Security Number

Our eBay account is in my moms name under her information and she has became extremely sick and is not expected to make it very much longer, so I am needing to know if I can change our account of almost 400 listings and 100% reputable feedback to my social security number so I do not have to delist all of these items under a new account. Please advise.

NO

Accounts are non transferable.

Re: Social Security Number

The simple answer is no, there would definitely exist the risk of permanent account suspension.

Re: Social Security Number

Is your name also on the account? If no, the first thing to do is see if you can get it added. This will show you are also a part of running her ebay business.

Then when the time comes you MAY be able to get ebay to change it to your name as the heir by producing a death certificate and hopefully a will which states you her heir.

I know they will occasionally allow an heir to take over an ebay account if they can shows they are part of running the business.

If not, you will have to give up your account that's in your mother's name and start fresh.

It may be for the best to assume they won't and start now by opening a new account and start moving your listings to that account without actually sending them live until you need to.

Re: Social Security Number

They say that, but it's not set in stone and there are exceptions they've made in the past.

Re: Social Security Number

I doubt it's possible, but won't hurt to ask.......

That said, you might start looking at 3rd party vendors to which you can download the listings and then relist under your new account.    I know 6 bit can do it and there are others.......  May cost you a month's fee, but that would be worth it, rather than recreating 400 listings.......

Re: Social Security Number

Crosslist can do it. You link it to the first account and import all the listings. Then unlink it and link it to the new account and you can repost all the listings. I have done it in the past with 3D sellers but that has a much higher learning curve.

https://crosslist.com/?via=paige

Use coupon code ONEFOOTFLIPPER for 30 percent off your first payment.

If you were using shipping policies on the old account then make sure you recreate them all with the exact same names on the new account before you import.

Re: Social Security Number

I am so sorry you and your family are going through this. My father passed in January and it is hard.

But, regarding your question. There is much more to consider than ebay. Ebay doesn't like a messy transaction and they have many laws they must follow.

Also, a bank/ credit union may may not allow a transfer of her assets to anyone by changing the SS#.

The IRS is going to want any and all taxes owed.

You don't mention this, but are there siblings?

Re: Social Security Number

If it were me, I would see if I could have legit access to her bank account. If that was the case, I would just continue selling. That’s just me.

Re: Social Security Number

Create a LLC for her shop and be named a "partner."  You will be co-owners and her store will legally pass to you upon her death or incapacity.  Avoids probate also.

Re: Social Security Number

I am not sure, but I would highly recommend that you call eBay.  Ask for a supervisor if the first caller can't help.

Re: Social Security Number

When it comes to banks accounts, you dont just want to have control of it, you want to be named on it as  a joint account holder.   If you are not part of the account as a joint owner, once she passes you will not have further access to it.

@tlrsmawmaw53

I am very sorry to hear about your Mother.  I know this must be a very difficult time for you and your family.

As others have told you Ebay won't let you do this.  They really just can't anymore with the laws the way they are on how they collect funds and process them.  So you will have to set up a new account.

If you need any help with the transition, just ask.
