Small scam attempt?

I had an inexpensive knife listed for $10.   I received an offer for $5 - its not a great knife, but its worth five bucks so I decided to accept, but as I was about to do so, I received a message from the person who made the offer:

dear sirs ;you exceped my offer of 5.00.so you,so you owe me 6.00 dollars...please sent it to my email addressor put it back in my checking acc...thank you....

So then the transaction went through but at the $10 it was selling for anyway.   Did this guy just scam himself?   How should I handle this?   I haven't bought the shipping label yet.  Also - what is this guy thinking?   Was he looking at a coupon or something?   How was this scam supposed to work?

So just to be clear, you NEVER accepted the $5 offer they sent you??

I think they AGREED on it but nothing more.

What does that mean?  Are you sure, it isn't the way their post reads, so I was just trying to get them to clarify that point.

Re: Small scam attempt?

As I said, most likely a confused buyer who thinks just sending an offer means that's what he pays.

I've seen posts from buyers who think a seller HAS to accept the buyer's "best offer".

"If a product doesn't sell, raise the price" - Reese Palley
"If it sold FAST, it was priced too low" - also Reese Palley

Re: Small scam attempt?

If you cancel as Buyer Request- based on his demand for a partial refund- he can still leave feedback, if he is bright enough to figure out how to do that.

@bajasierra  Sorry to sound dumb, but has he actually paid the $10 (plus shipping and sales tax).

If he hasn't paid, don't refund him.

If he has paid, don't refund him until you have confirmed that he does not want to pay the $10 (plus shipping and sales tax) that he did pay.

If he wants his money back tell him to open a Claim to keep everything transparent. If he can manage that, refund him and Block him.

Life is too short.... and this will not get better.

I am old and grouchy.

PS. Is there a chance than English is his second language? Could you use Google Translate to ask him what he is talking about in his own tongue?
