I was shown how to ship without tracking because the item was so small by eBay customer service and was told I would not be penalized. Ebay directed me to use the drop-down menu in my order dashboard and state it was shipped, which I did. They said by doing that that eBay would trigger a request to the buyer to let them know if the item was received. Even after the buyer stated that they received the item, eBay gave me a defect. This has happened to me twice with no recourse to have the defect reversed.

On another account I ship small paper items in a regular envelope. No tracking. My seller status on that account is above average, 100% on time, tracking uploaded percentage is zero. You MUST mark the item as shipped when you mail it.
With no tracking uploaded - as long as you mark it as shipped - the transaction will NOT count toward any metric UNLESS the buyer physically marks the item as arrived late.

I read that you could use a seperate account name and send all your small items through that account thereby not affecting your TRS status on your main account. This sounds good on the surface, but you still need in a print labels, etc. and I'm not sure if the 2 accounts would end up connecting somehow. Any thoughts or experience?

eBay would be aware that you have two accounts, so that if one got in trouble (e.g., suspended or restricted) the other one would, too. However, their sales histories, feedback, etc would operate independently.
Also: It is not possible to purchase postage through eBay for services which are not tracked, such as USPS letters and flats (AKA Large envelopes). You'd have to use stamps or purchase postage at the Post Office counter.
