Shipping error

I mistakenly listed an item with "letter" shipping.  There was a buyer and he contacted me that he cannot pay for some reason.  I told him about the error and should have been first class which would cost more and he's okay with that.  But I don't know how to fix it.  I cannot go in and change the shipping now.  Any suggestions ??

If they have not paid you should be able to send an invoice from the order page.  Fill in  the correct shipping cost and send it to buyer

@zorro38-3 Sometimes we make an error that costs us a few dollars but we learn from that so we can avoid it happening again. Since you sold your item with shipping stated you are not allowed to charge more, even though you made an error. You would have to pay the difference. If you invoice the buyer for more they can turn around later and report you to eBay or open a case which you would lose because you charged more for shipping than your transaction showed. Imagine if the situation was reversed and you were the buyer expecting to get your item for a lesser charge on the shipping.

If you cancel after your item sold that is also against policy and you will receive a demerit on your selling account. Always think about how best to cover yourself. First class shipping and letter is only a few dollars difference. This won't happen to you again so take the fall and make your customer happy. Best of luck to you....

There is nothing to fix.

The buyer is only required to pay what the listing showed, you can't ask them to pay any more for the shipping.

It was your mistake, so you have to make up the difference.

Have a great day.

The problem isn't about the cost...I would go ahead and ship it for what it was listed for.  The problem is that he cannot pay on his end.  This happens every time I use "letter shipping".  Buyers get message that I do not ship to their state, even when we're in the same state.  I quit using "letter shipping" for this reason and I usually ship "large envelope" for those items I can mail with a Forever stamp.  But in this case, I forgot to change it.  Now he can't pay on his end.

Try sending him an invoice,, just don't change the shipping cost.

if you used ebay standard envelope, it's probably a "weight" issue, especially if it's multiple cards (each weighing 1 oz even though they don't) because the system won't let you put anything less than an ounce. You should be able to modify the weight of the order, send them an offer, and then they can pay for it.

@zorro38-3   Wow I guess we both got some advise here (reading between the lines in my case).  To be clear in my original answer in message #2 I saw that you said buyer was unable to complete payment. That was the problem I was trying to solve for you.  I was suggesting sending and invoice (changing the shipping method) so that buyer could pay.  I was not trying to get into the ethics of charging extra (even though the buyer agreed) but I do agree you should not charge more. I was confident you would figure that our yourself when you saw how the invoicing works for adjustments, so did not call that part of it out.

Once you try out the invoicing page you will see that you can change the method of shipment there so that the buyer can pay.  You can also enter the cost of that shipping method manually. Either directly on  the carrier line if it lets you, or by giving a shipping discount near the bottom of the invoice.

I agree that the total charges on the invoice should equal what the buyer originally was shown before they tried to pay. If you do that you hopefully will get positive feedback.

Thanks for trying to help...I couldn't send an invoice...it was not an option because although the buyer tried to buy, the item just showed up as having bid and will sell and did not move from there, so no invoice could be sent.  Ebay never showed it as "sold".   I ended up using "sell similar" ,  changed the title a little and relisted it and changed the shipping and buyer paid and now in envelope ready to be picked up from postal carrier on Tuesday.
