Hello,
I have an coffee machine that was purchased that apparently arrived damaged/leaks now. I had full insurance with UPS. The buyer filed a return prior to contacting me at all about it. The item is no returns. It took several days for the buyer to even get me any substantive pictures to show the actual issue after filing the return request. There is now only a few hours remaining to process the return. I was only able to file the damage claim with UPS a few minutes ago. How am I supposed to complete this?

Expect to eat the cost. I have made exactly one damage claim with the carrier in my last $200,000 worth of sales and the claim took more time than the money was worth and then they sent me a check made out to my ebay username that I could not deposit.

Sorry you must not know there is o such thing as no returns. You have two options: have buyer return the coffee maker at your expense, or refund and tell him to keep it. If you do nothing Ebay will automatically refund him from your account and you will get a defect.

Opening a return is how you let the seller know you want to return.
There is no reason to message first. You want to start timers for all the sellers that don't respond timely so ebay can step in.
The buyer isn't obligated to give you extra pictures, if they did they are doing it as a courtesy.
You can ask them to wait.
You can send a shipping label if you want your item back.
Insurance is for lost items that disappear during tracking. Damage will most likely result in the carrier denying your claim for insufficient packaging anyways.

Thats over $400, thats ridiculous. UPS said to keep it where it is for inspection. ???????

So eBay support lied to me then?

It could be ridiculous and it may not be ridiculous. If the coffee maker just doesn't work, or just leaks then there is a 99.99% chance they will not honor insurance. If the BOX got damaged and the item actually broke then they will honor the insurance. That is assuming you packaged correctly.

If you are satisfied with the proof of damage, you can use those photos to help with your insurance claim. I would kindly ask them to hold onto the unit and packaging in case it's needed and refund them immediately. The only other option at this point would be to issue the return label to get it back, which is a waste of money in my book. Whether or not you get reimbursed through the insurance won't change the refund to the buyer.

Yeah the box clearly was damaged in the shipping as was the item. It was thoroughly packaged. It cost quite a bit.

Why would a return label be a waste of money?

You didn't mention ^^^ this in your original post. But if you were told to do anything besides process the Return (meaning, send a return shipping label -or- refund without a return) in a timely manner, you were (at the very least) misguided. If you only have a few hours left and you want your item back before refunding... you'd better snap to. Because if eBay issues the refund for you, your Seller Metrics take a hit, too.

"The item is no returns."
Have you read the Money Back Guarantee?

Every seller/shipper who has ever had a item damaged in shipping has stated it was adequately packed.

Seems like the OP IS the seller.

Yes, because that's what they do. They give out mostly false and inaccurate info just to get you off the line. These CS agents are outsourced and are located in other countries. They read from scripts and their replies are usually inaccurate. There is not such thing as no returns on ebay. Accept the return and move on. No returns does not mean no refunds.
