My buyer paid full shipping fees as per my listing. But Ebay also withheld shipping from my payment in the same amount. BTW the amount each of us were charged was quite a bit more than the amount I would have paid to ship it.

The "amount each of us" were charged?

If this was your April Sale....

The buyer paid 35.26 for the shipping (included in your total sale (204.26 + sales tax) with the 169.00)

You used 35.26 of that total to buy the shipping label for the order. You did not pay for it, your customer did with the initial payment.

How could you both be charged "quite a bit more" than you would have paid for it? The buyer already paid (per your settings) 35.26....

If you offer up some details maybe we can help you figure it out....

If you are using Calculated Shipping and buying the label on eBay the amounts should match.

If you bought the label elsewhere, you may miss out on eBay discounts or you may have upgraded the service which would cost more.

If you used Calculated Shipping but guessed at the dimensions and weight, when you made a label with the correct dimensions, you could be charged more.

You will see the Order Details page, that will give you an exact breakdown of what the buyer paid, and what was taken out for fees and the shipping label.

Thank you all for your responses. I tried to upload my statement to help clarify the situation but got a message that I did not have permission to upload images. So, I will try to explain the details.

Monika: First, the fact that my post "makes no sense", I presume means the details depicted in my post make no sense, which of course is the reason I am posting. It is indeed for my April sale. The shipping amount was actually $31.05 rather than $35.26, according to my statement. In the details of the amount collected from the buyer it showed $31.05 for shipping. However, right on my statement it shows a fee deducted from my proceeds for shipping @ $35.01, which leads to believe we were both charged for the same shipping fee since the two amounts matched exactly.

When I said that we both paid "quite a bit more....", I was not real clear on what I meant. This was to say that it seemed that the amount for shipping through Ebay's "discount" was more than the standard fee. Here is why I said that: When I shipped it through a Mailpost, they put the item in a larger box than necessary, evidently because it was all they had available. I was concerned, thinking it may create a shipping deficit. They said the prepaid shipping label was more than enough to cover the shipping, so I inquired how much postage it would need as packaged and they gave an amount quite a bit less than $35.01 (though I don't recall the exact number). So if this was a true statement (and maybe it wasn't), then the Ebay shipping label was an "over purchase".

Now, had I been charged an additional shipping fee that didn't exactly match the amount charged to the buyer, I would have thought the Mailpost folks had given me poor advice and the mailing may have incurred additional postage due to it's size. But since it exactly matched the amount charged to the buyer, my assumption is that they charged both of us. Also, I did later, in May, receive an additional charge for postage on this transaction in an amount of $1.50, which seems like it may have been the overage on postage due to the larger packaging size by Mailpost (proving the mailpost people incorrect, but only slightly)

So, again, thanks to all for taking the time to respond and if anyone can offer any further thoughts I am all ears, contrary to the fact that it may seem like I am all mouth :-).

The buyer paid eBay for the item cost, the sales tax and the shipping. eBay sent the sales tax to their state. eBay deducted their final value fee based on the total the buyer paid. After deducting their ffv eBay gave you the proceeds (which included the shipping minus ffv). You were charged for the shipping label because eBay gave you the shipping cost they collected from the buyer.

Fab; ok, that might add up then. So, I ended up paying almost 20% in fees on my list price (rather than 13%) because they charge the percentage on the base price, plus the shipping and the tax. It must say that somewhere in the fine print, but really a bit ridiculous. I suppose that is why they don't itemize that part of their payment to the seller. Ebay used to seem like a pretty good way to sell things.

your answer is a good one, but just to clarify the last part of your sentence. "eBay gave you the shipping cost they collected from the buyer"

It isn't shipping "costs" that the buyer pays. The buyer pays whatever amount the SELLER is charging them for shipping on the listings. That may or may not be enough to cover the actual costs of the shipping. That will depend on if the buyer got the amount correct.

The cost the seller actually pays for shipping isn't always the same about that the seller charges the buyer. Sometimes the seller makes a mistake, especially if they are using calculated shipping and enter the information incorrectly so the calculator charges the buyer an incorrect amount for shipping.

So it is entirely possible that the amount for shipping that the buyer paid will not be the same as the amount the seller actually pays the carrier for shipping.

What you pay for shipping the item is NOT an Ebay fee. It is the cost you are paying the carrier to deliver your time. And yes that is a cost of sale, but no it is not an Ebay fee.

It is always in the best interest of the seller to know how Ebay fees are charged BEFORE ever listing anything. Without knowing this information, you can't properly price your item.

There is NO "fine print", just the actual policy that you apparently did not review before listing.

Ebay does itemize everything to the seller, you just apparently aren't looking in the right place. Try this link and look on the right side of the screen.

Please don't blame Ebay because you are struggling with the learning curve of selling on Ebay. Ebay has everything documented, but you need to seek the information so you better understand.
