Service Metrics

Suggested to eBay that they change the seller performance metrics to reflect more of reality instead of holding sellers to an impossible standard. The USPS and most shippers publish their performance standards. For the USPS for example they stated in the most recent report their delivery times are at 90% of standard which is a rise of 17% of 2021 .  Yet, eBay holds sellers to 100% standard or you gets defects.  These stats are also broken down into regions with SF highest and lower than 90 in other parts of the country. These figures may also not only delivery times, but scans, confirmations , errors in delivery etc. So, how can eBay hold sellers responsible for 3rd party non-performance.  FedEX also has performance defects. EBay can easily make the adjustment if they wished. Given all of the fees paid to eBay, isn't time to have eBay at least come to terms with the realities of the world rather to hold sellers to impossible standards they cannot meet ?

Because literally the only thing you need to do to meet the metrics is get an acceptance scan within your stated handling time. If you do that, it doesn't matter if the package is delivered two weeks late-- you won't get dinged.

So true.

After getting that initial scan within the seller chosen handling timeframe,  nothing to worry about until the latest delivery date.

Shipped 700 plus just on eBay since my last problem meeting delivery date.....   winter of 2020. Over 60% USPS.

Re: Service Metrics

Not the point. eBay can adjust seller metrics to what official USPS performance is reported by the USPS.  Overall it is 90% on time performance. This is a easy fix. If you ship 10 items your first defect starts at 90% not 100%. Each individual seller has his/her own number but this adjustment removes the USPS error penalty from the seller and adjust it from the seller to the USPS where it belongs. There are a ton of these fixes that can be done. Just improves the site. In the meantime eBay wants to change type faces.  People keep saying eBay is broken , maybe it is and maybe it is not. This fix might be a step in the right direction.    Just because you do not have an issue with this topic but the facts are the facts.  Individual situations do not always fit the entire population.  The USPS states a 90% on time performance over its entire system.  You individual usps performance may be 100% and maybe eBay performance maybe but more or less but we know certain regions have different stats. A seller in a poor performance region may experience more issues than a seller in a higher performance region.  One thing we do know, eBay will respond to direct seller feedback and make changes albeit it might take a long time.   Anything that helps sellers improve their metrics can only help all sellers and the site. In this case, we all know shipper's faults should not reflect  on the seller's record. During COVID the USPS performance dropped to 73% which was too big to ignore and eBay did make adjustments. This shows eBay can make changes.

Re: Service Metrics

That's not how Service Metrics works. You are confusing Metrics with defects. Defects are removed if you can prove your case. Service metrics is a very different thing. Go to your Service Metrics dashboard and download the file for the current period to see what has been recorded and is currently being used to determine your performance.
