Selling with Caution

So after 20 eBay chats, 6 Calls, 1 police report, 1 BBB Filing, 1 post office visit for weight verification and 5 picture upload. eBay approved my appeal. The buyer was even found using a forwarding address which violates MBG. Under another post I stated I sold an item RTX 3060 Ti for $770.00. The buyer filed an INAD and eBay granted the refund. I will say that was my last sale using eBay. I'm only posting this as a warning. If your buyer has 1 feedback probably should proceed with caution. If I where to ever sell again on eBay I would only sell to a buyer with a high feedback. It's your only real protection. Also make sure your return address is correct and make sure you're careful in your appeal. My first appeal was I didn't get the item. Because it went to an old address on file and when I got it from the apartment leasing office. It was a toy truck instead of a $770.00 GPU. When I filed a second appeal for different item sent by buyer. eBay refer back to my first appeal until my 20th chat and dispute with customer service. Someone finally asked for proof and granted my appeal. Just make sure you appeal the right way the first time. And as much as I hate to admit it. Grant the refund even though you can list as no refund. You'll probably get less headache from eBay and can appeal faster if things go south. Just maybe your buyer won't be a jerk and send you toy. Sometimes you just have to play the game to win the game. Good luck and sorry for the re-posts. I hope my agony helps the next seller.

There is no real protection. Any buyer, regardless of feedback score, can be a scammer. The best a seller can do is to assess their risk tolerance ( particularly on expensive items) prior to listing. Selling only to high feedback buyers does not protect an account, though it might give a modicum of comfort with the sale.

I’d be very very grateful you won the appeal and it happened because you did a lot of hard work.

     It is always great news for the selling community when we hear of a seller prevailing in a battle with eBay over what was quite obviously a scam attempt although it should not be this difficult when the buyer obviously lost their MBG coverage for a number of reasons and eBay initially refused to stand behind their own policies.

     One note/correction to your post. You cannot list an item as "no refund" you can list as no returns but that does not mean no refunds.

@melmacj7

Glad that you prevailed.

Unfortunately, there are certain items that in reality, are not a good "fit" to be listed online, especially certain sites.  GPUs have been scammer magnets on here for a while.

Really sorry that you had to "battle" your way thru to prevail.  It really should never be this difficult for any Seller and I have been there.  You are so very lucky to get a police report written - I tried and tried to no avail.

I would not give up on e-Bay or online selling.  I would however, not list certain types of things on here as they typically do not have the ending yours does.

CONGRATS to you and thank you so very much for sharing your resolution!  Music to my ears!  All the Best!
