I've been an eBay member for nearly 20 years, though I've only bought items so far. 52 positive feedback and no negative. Today for the first time I needed to sell something - a gaming PC worth approx €1000. But I kept getting an error saying I've passed my monthly limit, and I can either wait til next month or request an increase. If I click to request an increase, it just tells me I'm not eligible for one.
Looking into selling overview, it appears I've a $200 limit, which is far from what I need it to be. I tried the chat service to get support, but after typing out my request, it just bounces back saying chat unavailable, try again later. I try calling the support number - it says 44 min wait time on the website. But the voice on the other end just instructs to check out the support section of the website before hanging up on me.
Any suggestions or ways I can get my issue resolved, or is eBay just not an option for my circumstances.
I'm based in Ireland, in case that's relevant.

Probably best to ask on your home site as rules may be different, but here new sellers are restricted to a value limit and the number of listings until they build a reputation.

Hi, This is the discussion board for eBay users in the United States, but the policy over there is probably the same: limits are increased based on the seller's reputation such as total sales, feedback received, and lack of issues such as buyers filing cases. So you won't be able to get that limit increased any time soon.

I'll try that. Thanks for the reply. Wasn't sure as that's the UK community, but there doesn't seem to be an Ireland one.

Bit of a catch 22, isn't it? Can't get a seller reputation if I can't sell. And I'm just a private seller with a specific item, I don't have a plethora of cheap random things to sell and create a history from.

Expensive gaming items are a high fraud category. It is fairly easy for a seller to get ripped off by an experienced scammer. New sellers are prime targets. Ebay wants to discourage new sellers from listing a high value item as their first foray into selling. A $200 limit is for your benefit and protection. If you wish to use this platform to sell your item, you must start small and build up several successful transactions before the limits get raised. You might consider another platform or a cash sale locally if you are in a hurry to sell. Good luck.

If you aren't willing to start slowly with the $200 limit while you learn the ropes, then perhaps eBay is not for you. Valuable electronics are a magnet for scammers, so listings by new sellers rarely end well.

Scammers, interesting. I had my item set for local collection only, thinking that'd be scam-proof. But maybe that's my inexperience showing and there are methods I'm not aware of.

One "local pickup" scam is paying electronically, then cancelling the payment after pickup.
Another is having an accomplice pick up the item, and asking that you include some gift cards for his trouble, paid for by the buyer. Except the entire payment was made with a stolen card.
There are many many more.

You have to consistently list up to your monthly limits to get them gradually raised higher.
Ebay is not going to let a seller with 0 feedback as a seller get their limits raised without no previous sales.
