I listed an item and them I had someone bid higher on the item. They asked me to buy an eBay gift card for $500.00. Of course I rejected their offer! Doesn't eBay watch out for scammers?? This was my first time selling something and it's pretty darn scary!

As a newbie seller, you are a scam magnet, with 185 million members here you can expect many scammers, its up to you, as the seller, to learn to protect your account. How would you suggest that 'Ebay watch out for scammers?'

Anyone can sign up for a new account and send an offer. Many scammers get kicked off eBay and turn around and sign up again using a different email address.
Providing contact information (text or email) prior to a transaction is a policy violation; this policy is designed to protect honest buyers and sellers from scams and to prevent off-eBay transactions.
All sellers need to watch out and protect themselves whenever anyone asks them to violate eBay policy to complete a transaction.

Yes, eBay warns members about scammers, but YOU'RE the one who needs to watch out for them in order to protect your own account.
Here's eBay's security page: https://pages.ebay.com/securitycenter/index.html
Here's eBay's warning post:
Hi everyone,
If you believe that you or someone you know was scammed into buying eBay Gift Cards, visit our gift card page to contact customer service and find additional information related to gift card scams.
Thank you.
