Selling internationally

I have always listed my items to be shipped in the USA only. I have received a bid from someone in Canada. Can someone explain how this works on eBay now? Thank you!

Re: Selling internationally

I looked at several of your listings to see that you ship internationally with eBay's international shipping program. You would ship domestically to eBay's hub. eBay ships to the buyer in Canada.

Re: Selling internationally

Just to add to @ebooksdiva's excellent post, “ships to” locations aren’t the same thing as “sells to” locations.  If your buyer is registered in a country other than the United States but has the items shipped to a US address, they will have met the shipping terms stated in your listing.

In your case, your buyer will likely have the item sent to the eBay International Shipping hub just outside of Chicago, but there’s a chance they may have the address of a friend or relative in the US or a US-based forwarding service set up as their shipping address.

Re: Selling internationally

Adding to the other replies, you will also be charged an additional fee for the buyer being out of the US if the Canadian is the high bidder (buyer), even if they use a friend's address in the US.

Nothing you can do to avoid it. Them's the rules. I don't like it when it happens to me either, but if I sell here, I have to accept it, or not sell here.

Re: Selling internationally

@ltldpr That is not correct.

The OP uses eIS so there is no international fee charged to the seller.

The fee only applies if you're NOT enrolled in eIS.

Re: Selling internationally

Oh!

OP didn't know they were enrolled in eIS & I didn't know that eIS means no fee for non US buyers.

Thanks for letting me know.

Re: Selling internationally

When a seller uses the eIS, which is a Seller Protection program, their responsibility for delivery ends at the eIS plant (in Illinois or California).

The buyer's ability to make a Not As Described claim is also somewhat restricted.

In what way? I'm not aware of any restrictions.

Re: Selling internationally

It depends. I assume you are talking about shipping. There are one of three possibly 4 ways it could ship depending on how your shipping preferences are setup and how the buyer is setup.

1. Others have already covered the EIS program which you are enrolled in.

2. The buyer could be using a freight forwarder but not likely with them being in Canada in which case you would be shipping the item to a freight forwarder which would then forward it to the buyers address.

3. EIS has some restrictions on what can be shipped through the program. If it is not eligible for the EIS program you would need to have alternate international shipping setup in your seller settings.

4. A bit of an offshoot from the freight forwarder or as part of it some Canadian buyers that are on the border will maintain a PO box in the US and drive across to pickup packages or pick them up from the freight forwarder.
