Selling Restrictions

Have had my account restricted for three days twice in the last couple months I guess. The first time it happened must have been a fluke because there seemed to be no valid reason why three of my listings were removed even when I called and inquired. Still had the restriction for three days. Could not list during that time. This last time it happened, I had listed an item in the wrong category.

My question is, how many times can you get a three day restriction before you might start getting suspended? Are these restrictions counted somehow then you get suspended or do you not get suspended for these sorts of issues?

Just trying to find out where I may stand. Thanks.

You're lucky to get another 3 day, second time (within a certain period) is usually 7 or 30 days. A third could likely result in account termination.

What was the "invalid" reason your listings were removed, was it the same "invalid" reason both times?

The type of policy violation and the period of time in which they happen makes a difference to the outcome. For some things it can be a one-shot deal if you become a repeat offender.

Selling Restrictions

The first time I had the restriction, three of my listings were removed. They were a gun stock, a black powder percussion lock, and a couple army surplus jackets, all of which are legal to sell on ebay. The representative I spoke to after having to investigate for a while and call me back said they were removed because the items had been used in the US military. I pressed it a little because I knew that at least two of the items could not be confirmed as having been used in the military and was told that that was the only explanation. I'm guessing they didn't know why my items were removed and made up something. The funny thing was that he gave me this e-mail address (for department of defense?) through which I could appeal. If the department of defense told me I could relist, then I could relist.

So I guess the danger of penalty is mostly having multiple listing "violations" in a certain time period?

Had the items indeed been used in the military?

There are many not-so-obvious reasons why listings get removed, and customer support representatives generally are no help. Sometimes it seems like they are given as little information as you are.

For example ... sometimes it is not the item that is the problem, but the listing itself. For example, there are rules about where you can ship items. There are rules about how you can describe an item. Some items require a specific disclaimer to be included. And as you have already found out, there are rules about what categories they can be listed in as well.

If you can send the messages you received from eBay when the listings were taken down, we can probably help you decipher them.

I have no idea, but our hosts here are pretty draconian, I wouldn't be pushing my luck with them if you have more than one recent problem with them already.

The pulled listings, do not relist them no matter how many times they tell you that you can.  Once the their bot gets the scent of those listings, they'll find them again and again, and whoever receives the bot message will Sgt. Schultz you when you say someone said you could relist it.  Even if Trump himself said you could relist it, don't relist it.

Repeated offenses can earn you a permanent suspension.

With several offenses already, OP, please be very careful about what you do.

If something is pulled, don't relist it.  Check the prohibited items list before listing to avoid any issues.  Be careful with your categories.

The reason as to why listings are pulled is in the email message that Ebay sent you regarding the pulled listing.  Don't feel badly, though, many have come to the Boards not knowing the reason, yet it has always been right there in the message.

Good Luck to you.  Stay safe.

Two army surplus jackets (perhaps they've been used in military but according to ebay policy read, they were fine to list), one gun stock from a gun that doesn't have a connection with military, and one black powder percussion lock from a pistol that is not used in US military.

Selling Restrictions

Hello gal220joy,

Some of your listings haven't followed our Firearms, Weapons, and Knives policy. We previously informed you about our policy, so we've taken the following actions on your account:
- Selling privileges have been temporarily restricted. You won't be able to list new items or revise active items for 3 days. You're also not allowed to register a new account during this time.
- Listings that didn't follow our policies have been removed. A list of removed item(s) is available further down in this email.
- Any fees for listings that were ended early for not following policy won't be credited to your account. Due to laws restricting the sale of explosives, military ordnance and grenades, most of these items aren’t allowed on eBay.

Military ordnance includes items such as weapons, ammunition, equipment, vehicles, and their related parts. This includes items that are considered demilitarized, de-milled, or unserviceable. This is because we can't confirm whether the items have been changed in ways that would make them safe and legal to sell and transport.

Listings for any explosives or grenades aren't allowed, including:
- Dummy grenades
- Grenade launchers or grenade-launcher attachments
- Inert grenades (such as curios, display items, memorabilia, or relics)
- Metal grenades
- Military practice grenades
- Mines
- Rifle grenades

To learn more about our weapons policy and guidelines for explosives, grenades, and military ordnance, go to:
http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/firearms-weapons-knives.html

During this restriction, you can still:
- Send member messaging
- Obtain shipping addresses
- Leave feedback
- Perform other administrative tasks

Please be sure to manage any current listings and to complete any open transactions. After 3 days, your account will no longer be restricted. We also encourage you to use this time to become familiar with our policy. Please be sure that your current and future listings, including any items that are relisted automatically, follow these guidelines. If they don't, they'll be removed, and your fees won't be refunded. It could also result in additional actions, including loss of buying and selling privileges for a longer period of time.

If you have questions, contact our policy experts:
