Ebay's selling fees are getting completely ridiculous! Check out, in your summary, what you sold items for and what you actually ended up with after FEES! Was it worth all of your hard work?

If you compare the fees to other platforms that offer the exposure that eBay does, you'll find that the fees are very similar.
Roughly 13% is a pretty fair amount for a set-up where you just enter a few pics and some words.
And let's not forget the fact that they collect and remit the sales tax. For a larger seller, that alone would require a full-time employee and those are not free.
It's a pretty good deal.

I knew what the fees were before I started listing. No problems here. Making what I figured I would make.

The listing selling fees have been posted for everyone in advance and shouldn't be a shock to anyone.....Plus, the fees are very fair compare to the other platforms. Adjust your pricing accordingly & adapt to any fee increases.
Good luck!

Yes...well worth my concerted effort
and it's not hard work......being a bricklayers laborer and schlupping a 10 lb. hod of mortar up 3 flights is hard work

You have chosen to complain about the only fee that is fair. It's also a diversion while you get screwed on everything else.

Exposure means nothing if you can't remain price competitive. I use a LOT of other forums and venues that have lot lower fees. While they may not have the buyer base eBay does most of them are focused on a targeted set of buyers. Because of the lower fees I can offer my items on those sites for around 10% less and there are several local forums where the buyers don't have to worry about shipping cost or damage.

Generally yes but I have a pretty good cost model and I know in advance what I have to list the item for to attain the ROI I am looking for. However, there are some things that I just cannot list on eBay and remain cost competitive. Generally it's because of the shipping cost more than the fees.

If you are buying right and set your margins right then the Ebay fees are not an issue.

Marketplace fee is 5%, here it's more like 15% and up. Especially since the fee is based on the sale value plus tax which doesn't come to you, an extra 30 cents per listing and 1.9% international fee for shipping domestic if your buyer uses a freight forwarder. Plus eBay is raising the fee again...
I sold something for for 257.99 and fees are based on 276.31 so the fee was $35.64, Of course it doesn't account for the $19 I spent on shipping and I also paid the 30 cents listing fee. Luckily it didn't go to a freight forwarder or an account registered in another country and cost another 1.9% and I'm a top rated seller so I got 10% or $3.56 off the final value fee so I actually paid $32.08 plus 30 cents.
I believe the final fee is going up another
.25% or something so it'll be 13ish percent of sale amount with tax plus 30 cents and possibly another 1.9%

Shipping can be expensive so why not have the buyer pay rather than offer free shipping?
02-02-2023 12:24 PM
my combined fees with shipping were 16.5% in 2022
the fees for watches have been at 15% for around a year or so
this year the update was a big snooze fest, nothing for me to get alarmed about
I am in one of the few categories that did not get bumped up
my rate is 15% discounted to 12.5 with a store
after the 10% discount for being a TRS it comes out to exactly a 25% discount off of 15% FVF
I cant really complain since I have plenty of product to sell that was paid for in the last 10 years
this year I will sell around 2100 pieces, the same amount as last year and the same amount for 2024
life is what you make of it just like ebay selling is

Let's see... I sold something for $30 + shipping the other day. After fees and shipping, I ended up with $27.35. Seems pretty reasonable to me.

Exactly. I don't understand why so many sellers choose to offer free shipping and then proceed to complain about it. Just use calculated shipping instead.

@heckofagame You are very lucky you only have to pay 13%. Maybe you sell sports cards and lightweight items. Those of us that ship heavier items end up paying around 26%. In seller hub it shows my last 30 days fee rate at 27.6% cost to sell here.
