Hello, I recently sold an Xbox on eBay. I usually check addresses but haven’t sold an item on eBay in a while, I didn’t check the buyers address and it turned out to be a reship. A day after it was delivered, they opened a return case and said it was defective, attaching an image of a perfectly working Xbox from google. Keep in mind, it’s a reship address, there’s 0 chance the buyer actually has the item since he’s using an image from google and saying it’s defective when it was sealed. eBay opened automatically sent him a return label today, and it was shipped from New York even though i sent it to Miami, Florida. I know it’s a scam 100% and I’m expecting to get either nothing in the mail and it’s mail fraud or an empty box. I already know I’m gonna have to fight my butt off to get this money that is rightfully mine, so I would appreciate any help on this. I haven’t received the ”return” yet, but it’s obviously not going to be an Xbox, and want to know what I should do before it’s too late

From what I understand, once you ship to a forwarder, buyer losses his protection. You need to submit the information to eBay. Try ebay for business on Facebook to communicate with them. I'm sure others will come with more info, but the key is the reshipping address, that's your out. However, that is not stopping the buyer from doing a chargeback.
Good luck.

Simply shipping to a forwarder doesn't void the MBG.
The seller would also have to prove the item was actually forwarded.
GL on this fight. You will most certainly want to report them after you get your delivery. Reporting early means you based your report on speculation as you don't know the contents until delivered.

from what I know, reshippers don't care and that's their whole business, is providing a backing for fraudsters, so I highly doubt they would do anything about this. I shipped it august 4th and it was delivered august 8th, while the buyer opened the case august 9th

You may not receive anything back as one of the scams is to send a random item to a random address in your zip code and when you don't refund eBay will make the decision to do the refund from your account. If it happens this way you will need to prove eBay make the wrong decision and then they can reimburse you.
If you are ripped off, point out to eBay that the return is coming from a different address in a different state. If you receive something but not your item make note of the item weight as stated on the shipping document. File a complaint with the USPS and your police department. Provide all this information to eBay and ask to be reimbursed.
If there is a way to do it I would file a complaint against the re-shippers address also.

Several sellers have used the method, outlined below, to beat the scammer. I know of two in the last 6 months. Mudshark deserves credit as he or she has saved at least a handful of sellers from a loss of their item/s and a headache.
the message below is from @mudshark61369
You have been the victim of a fake tracking scam, the seller's send something, an envelope or small box with tracking to a different address, and uses the Delivered scan to win an Item Not Received (INR) dispute. eBay's automated INR system is not allowed access to anything but the scan information, due to shipping company's privacy policies. When you file a dispute and lose in the message there should be an appeal button. You have 30 days from losing the dispute to appeal, but in order to win you have to do some leg work. If you can get the box from the people who received it, it can help, but it is not necessary.
You will have to go to your P.O. or a local UPS-FedEx store. You need to bring a copy of your order details page which shows your address and the tracking number with you. If you bought using a phone or tablet, you can bring that to show the clerk the order details.
You want to ask the clerk to check the label address against yours, and also to check the Package type/size weight info to see if was is appropriate for what you should have received. If the info does not match up, you ask the clerk to write a note on Company stationary saying in general that the shipping label's address was not yours, and if applicable that the package type/size/weight was not right for what you should have received. Do not ask for specific address or package info, they cannot give it out. Have the clerk sign and date the note.
Once you have the note, you can appeal the original dispute ruling, there will be an Appeal link in the messaage from ebay. You can skip the dispute option and contact ebay through their Facebook or Twitter social media pages. (links below) You can write out what happened and what you found out, and add a CLEAR photo or a scan of the note to an appeal or social media message. If you go the social media route which is recommended, because the reps know about the fake tracking scams you will need to have the seller's username and the ebay item number. At the end of your message give them your real and ebay username.

In this case I am the seller expecting a return package from the buyer, is it the same principles in this case? A bit confused with the whole, talking to the USPS worker thing. I show them the order details and tracking number, but I don’t really understand what “You want to ask the clerk to check the label address against yours” means. And how would they get the package size and weight if I won’t have a package for them to do that to in the first place? Just pretty confused on what exactly I’m supposed to do in the USPS portion of this, and want to clarify since the return is expected to deliver tomorrow

You assuming you are going to get ripped off before you have actually been ripped off. There is not anything preemptive you can do at this point. People are just explaining how some of the known scams are perpetrated and what to do afterwards.
If you get a package back then you were not scammed using the send a random item to a random address in you area scam. Your claim would not be that you did not receive anything.
Assuming you do get a package but it is not your item in the package then the weight of the package may be important to explain to eBay. If you get a package weighing one pound but your X-Box weighed six pounds then it is not possible that you received a X-Box. This information would be important to eBay.
There are some clever scams that are successful on eBay. You can not stop them. Once one happen to you then there are some things that can be done afterwards that may limit your loss.
To be honest, eBay most often sides with the buyer and then it is up to the seller to prove that eBay made a wrong decision. If you can prove a wrong decision then there is a possibility that they may reimburse you or at least not charge you their commissions for your scammed item.
If you are indeed ripped off tomorrow then come back and get advice on what to do next.

Anytime something is mailed to a freight forwarder, the seller's obligation is met once the item shows as delivered to that freight forwarder's address and ebay does not protect buyer's who use freight forwarders bc the ff is considered a 3rd party entity. The philosophy being that the mailed product can be altered at the freight facility so may not reach the buyer in its original condition.
Here is the eBay link re this>
