Ship by 16 July, estimated delivery 14 July.

Classic Ebay.

eBay looks at your historical shipping time to provide estimated delivery dates. They don't care about your actual chosen handling time. I think we all hate the practice.

Seller Protection HOW and WHY

if the seller is actually away and cannot ship the historical data is absurd. It is setting the wrong expectations for buyers and setting up the seller for failure. In this case. Even if the seller could ship today the chances a package will arrive Tuesday is unlikely. The USPS has supposedly adding a day to estimates. Where is the estimate coming from.

@Anonymous

this has been going on for far too long and is putting sellers in a bad position.

Is there anyone that can look at these examples and seriously question if historians data is appropriate to use?

Hi @golf-usga, thanks for touching base; can you provide me with the item numbers related to these shipping estimates so I can pass along examples for review?

The first one with July 14 as delivery date is  Order number 09-05368-33995

The second one with July 16-21 estimate is order number    10-05371-77198

I ended up coming back from my trip early to deal with these shipping fiascos.  I just finished printing labels so they show shipped now.  I had not planned to be back and ship until Wednesday.  I will make a special trip to the post office this afternoon.  Unpacking and dealing with everything else will have to wait because ebay demands that I ship and deliver earlier than humanly possible.  Nevermind the delays that USPS is having with many packages.

I have 16 orders with unreasonable shipping estimates that entirely ignored my handling time and told my customers that they would receive their items in impossible estimates.  Some on this ID and some on others.

I have many  screen shots and this has been going on for months.

I agree with the many past complaints from others. When are these childish games going to end? I had to up my handling period from 5 to 10 days to counteract eBay's childish meddling. One I haven't fixed yet shows guaranteed delivery to myself on the 17th despite my 5 day handling period. 124257931473

I have sales with 5-day handling to Florida that had a Fast and Free guaranteed delivery like 373108558877. They purchased on the 10th and it is showing guaranteed delivery on the 16th. I shipped it out today so good luck with that. I won't be eating a loss because of eBay.

As a company eBay is hiding behind the pandemic excuse for their worse than normal support. It is nice to know us sellers aren't given that privilege and you are more than happy to throw us under the bus like usual. I can't wait till eBay chooses to disregard my 10-day handling and I have to up it to 30-days.

@Anonymous  As someone who was a part of this issue back when it was first noticed awhile back, I'd like to also add my name to this hat and agree with everyone here. This process is totally lame.

Is ebay aware that this creates more unnecessary conflicts between buyers and sellers? It's like ebay is trying to separate and divide the two parties. When trying to describe this to a buyer, often times the buyer won't believe us because it just sounds so utterly ridiculous and unbelievable. I often reply to them that I agree, it is very unbelievable... doesn't make it false though.

Ebay always tries to "help" the buyer, yet this process is just making them more POed.

Hi @golf-usga, thanks for the added details! I'll pass this along for review and while we aren't always able to provide an update I'll post here if I hear anything I can share.

Seller Protection HOW and WHY

I have to agree with most of the comments on here.

My handling time is set for one day, but I select parcel post 5-9 days for shipping service.  eBay still tells the buyers they will get their items in 2 days.  I do ship things out first class mail, but although the post office says first class is 2-3 days...it’s actually like 5-7 days sometimes.

buyers don’t understand.

And also on the contrary to what ebay might believe, many buyers either overlook or don't really understand the meaning of the word "estimate" and don't like being told that.

estimate means next day delivery right?

Seller Protection HOW and WHY

So for the fun of it I took all my listings from 10 days to 5 days handling.  Everything went back to disregarding my specified handling time.  So I am guessing given enough time eBay would disregard my handling time on the 10 day setting.

Seller Protection HOW and WHY

I do not blame sellers for extending their handling times to give themselves a little wiggle room but I suspect that ebay does not care for the practice and has essentially punished sellers that use this formula.  It makes sense to give buyers a reasonable delivery estimate then surprise them when it gets there early.

ebay has to quit giving unreasonable estimates.  They promise that it is the post office that is giving the estimates but I have several examples where that just is not the case. ebay's estimate is 2-3 days earlier than the post office.  I have commented on the fact that ebay counts the date I print the label as the ship date and changes/moves the estimate based on the print label date.   I simply cannot get up at 3 in the morning to print and ship packages in order to have the print date/ship date to match.  I already give myself an extra hour in the morning to do any last minute shipping, it would not be feasible to do them all or even just the labels as it would cause more errors.

This historical data is garbage.  The community team has been hearing from us about this for many, many , many months and nothing has changed.  To have absolute proof that ebay gives an estimated delivery time that is earlier than the expected ship date has only been met with the promise to "pass it on" and never once has anyone from the shipping team or seller experience reached out to find out why this is such a hot issue for me and why it just is not working.

I frequently leave my business for a few days during the summer months and extend my handling time to compensate for the change in ship time and ebay's historical data just slapped me in the face for even thinking about leaving for a few days and I had to ship because of stupid things like an estimated delivery given to the buyer as two days before I was even going to be back to ship.

With the Covid slow downs in mail and the problems with sorting and distribution centers, ebay insists on giving these outrageous shipping estimates with no regard to the seller and the situations they are in.

It's long past anything that Trinton or Brian or tyler@ebay  can do about it.  This needs to be escalated to the shipping team and seller experience and management.

My next step is Jordan Sweetnam.  Maybe he will listen and do something.

Someone else managed to find one of the higher up's emails through some searching.  Maybe it is time we start climbing the ladder.
