Seller Liability for Electronic Problem

Looking for someone's input here. I've been making some industrial steampunk lamps lately and wish to sell some here on eBay.  I have confidence in my wiring for the lamps, and they all work perfectly, but I'm no electrician. My question is, if something were to happen with the lamp when a buyer receives the lamp and uses it (ex. they leave it on overnight and the lamp starts a house fire), would I be liable and be sued for everything I own?

Whether you would be liable and whether you would be sued are two entirely different things.  The outcome of the lawsuit would decide whether you were liable or not.

As a manufacturer of the product it is possible that you could be held liable for damages resulting from the use of your product.  It would be up to the courts to determine if you were or not.

If you are using just a two wire source you will be fine as long as you aren't making the wires and the insulation.

Now if you are using some handmade sodium arc or mercury vapor with handmade wiring nonsense in a home you might be having problems.
