Have recently posted a formal dress for sale and have had many ‘buyers’ trying to scam me but first asking me to message them on what’s app and asking me to buy them a ‘Steam Card’ furthering on to ask for prove of purchase, wanting to take the code off the card and take my money 😞

With how little you've used the site, you're considered a prime target for this sort of thing since they assume you won't know any better.

If you have any more hints of scam, come here first, provide as many details as appropriate and someone will be along to help you if you have patience. Possibly many.

Yes, it is sad that a few bad apples will attempt to commit fraud. But following the rules of the platform can help protect a new seller from some of it.

Yes--and, IMO, one of the best and easiest rules to follow is the one that prohibits any contact with other members outside of eBay messaging. If these new sellers would just ignore any requests to text someone regarding a transaction, we wouldn't see half as many successful scams on these boards as we do.
SMS social media cuts both ways, folks.
