Scamming A Seller

There is officially no eBay policy that protects sellers from being scammed.

That's right -- there is no seller protection from being scammed.

Mail fraud is a serious crime.  Google that.

Re: Scamming A Seller

Sellers still lose 1) the item 2) profits from that item.

If a seller is scammed, then the ONLY thing eBay will do is 1) recommend contacting the carrier 2) filing a criminal case. Oh, they also shut down the scammers account (it takes 2 minutes to set up a buyer account, so this is nothing).

If a seller is scammed -- they lose that money. Nothing can be done to get your money or item back.

Re: Scamming A Seller

About the only seller protection we have is against an INR where tracking shows the package delivered.

Other then that, there's not much.

Have a great day.

Re: Scamming A Seller

I agree eBay is not doing enough to stop buyers who scam and not doing enough to help sellers who have been scammed by those buyers. I would also suggest making your point in the Weekly Chat With eBay Staff, where at least one eBay employee will see and respond: https://community.ebay.com/t5/Weekly-Chat-with-eBay-Staff/bd-p/weekly-chat

Re: Scamming A Seller

You have to protect yourself and there are some tools available:

Report internet fraud to ic3.gov

Report mail fraud to usps.com

Report fraud to the perps local police

Report fraud to your local police.

You should make all four of these reports.  Generally, they can be made on line and will give you viewable case numbers.   Armed with those, you can call ebay CS and get the case decided in your favor.

PS:  I just love your username.   I'll bet it really instills confidence in your buyers.

Are you sure about that? Have you done this? @Anonymous is this info correct? If it is that’s wonderful

Re: Scamming A Seller

I think the user name is funny and cute. It wouldn’t deter me. I saw a much worse one the other day. I can’t remenber it now but it had the word scammer in it.

Re: Scamming A Seller

Griff posted this info many moons ago in the weekly chat. He did it in response to a buyer that was trying to scam him. I'll await Trinton's reply though.

Re: Scamming A Seller

Perhaps you did not know how to protect yourself from a scammer. Most scams can be prevented or halted if you know how to use the tools ebay provides.

Re: Scamming A Seller

Their policies are so aggressively pro-buyer that they inadvertently also are anti-seller.

I ready line-by-line with a Customer Service agent their policy and there's nothing for seller protections other than in the case of defective returns.

Re: Scamming A Seller

I don't derive any validation as a participant on an internet platform of strangers, similar to the advice I give groups of young women and girls as a speaker. But do you, cutie.

Re: Scamming A Seller

Nope, eBay can do nothing to stop a semi savvy scammer. And they will not intervene as per their official policy. They will only give advice. The only proactive thing they do is use AI and ML to spot and ban scammers, but this is only effective a percentage of the time. They also ban scammers after they've already scammed. Huge flaw in the platform just waiting to be mass exploited.
