I just got a message from a buyer saying "This item was listed as free shipping and I had to go to the post office and pay $3 something for shipping...........what's up with that?"
Tracking says this: Your item was delivered at the front door or porch at 4:14 pm on May 22, 2017 in PLAQUEMINE, LA 70764
If they held the package, shouldn't it show on the tracking?
If they really did charge her it could be one of two things. First it was a 15 ounce first class package and I've read about some post offices not wanting to honor that. Also, I'm on commercial plus so maybe they just think I underpaid.
So far I've called 5 times. The first time I was hung up on...the next 4 no answer. This particular post office has very low ratings also. Two stars on Google.
I mentioned the tracking and she said that she noticed that too...I offered to refund if she would send a copy of the receipt. Of course the garbage man JUST came.

I always do that! I always mess up some mundane detail.
But back to the OP- sorry you had to deal with this situation and got a neg out of it.It seemed every piece of the equation here added up to suspicion. I would have done just as you did - asked for receipt, spoken with PO, tried to get some details from the buyer to confirm before sending $.
Curious - what does this buyer's FB for others look like? Has she left a lot of negs/neutrals? A lot of comments leading you to believe she regularly asks for refunds?

I would have did the same. I canot believe you gave the buyer such a hard time and didn't believe a word they said calling them a liar all for $3.

So you racked up yet another neg and bad FB over 3 bucks, was it worth it.
Over something you can't prove one way or the other ?
Looking at your neg and neut count, I guess you don't mind doughnuts.
Did you even go to your PO to see what they had to say about it ?

I'm irritated, mostly because after a very long stretch at 100% this is the third time I've been negged for not caving to demands etc in the last two months.
After the last message, I'm pretty sure she was just trying for a discount. To everyone who advised just refunding, I understand that point of view but doing that would really bother me. I really appreciate all the input
This is the PM:
"Over 3.18? You should've just reimbursed me"
My response: "I just want to find out what's going on. If you had a receipt I would have already reimbursed you and taken it up with the post office."
Seconds later: Neg
Huh. I just looked at what she bought. I will refrain from what I want to say....being a woman myself!
Sorry you received the neg, but you know it doesn't matter and isn't going to stop anybody from buying from you. You do enough in volume to make up for this sorry excuse of a ......(again refraining from saying what I want to say).
I'm just glad one more seller didn't cave in to unreasonable unproven demands. Sick minded people that think they are entitled just because "they say so", there's a lot of that attitude out there. Wear the neg with pride, it tells scammers shop elsewhere.

Which, by the way is the way of a smart scammer.
If one listens to board talk, everything is evidence of a scammer: cheap item, pricey item, sorta pricey item, negative feedback, no feedback, files complaint, doesn't file, responds too fast, responds too slow, asks for refund, doesn't ask...
The buyer's story as you've presented it sounds pretty much like what I might have done for a minor Postage Due. I would not shake down my octogenarian mother to find the receipt, but I would contact the seller for an explanation or correction. If seller treated me like a criminal, I would not hesitate to reflect that attitude in feedback.

If it was important enough to neg, it would be important enough to hang onto receipt to show the seller.
So...it was a scammer.

lol. I was unaware of this rule. And here I thought there were some folks that just wouldn't spend countless hours agonizing over less money than they could find under a sofa cushion.
So...it was a scammer.
Thanks for proving my earlier point. I have no doubt that had the buyer NOT left the neg, someone would say that's proof he's a scammer trying to stay under the radar.

People should not make claims they cannot back up, right? That goes for those wanting even just $3.
You think it's a conspiracy theory, or unfounded. Well I think the same of a complaining customer who throws out the very receipt that is proof the same morning. But I have noticed your posts on this board. You back up unsubstantiated claims yourself by supporting this buyer who threw out the proof.
I have done my homework in life on liars, I've met my fair share. One thing they always have in common is not being able to back up their claim with PROOF.

Who would think of seeking reimbursement for anything without a receipt? Saying it's no big deal because it's only one buyer, only $3 & that a negative feedback is the end of the world is the attitude that allows for this sort of thing. What if every buyer did this? Half? When does it become worth standing up for yourself? Had she responded at all to my request for information with at least the day she'd been there but sorry don't remember the exact time. I might feel differently. No more effort than typing out a message and a negative feedback.
At no point in time did I treat her like a criminal. I simply wanted to address what I thought was a mistake made by the post office and quite frankly, I was doing the leg work she should have done to obtain a receipt. That she refused makes me think that there never was a receipt.
