I have been selling on EBay for 23 years. I was a top rated seller. My sales have plunged the last 2-3 months. Is anyone else experiencing the same problem…no sales?
Thanks

There has been some discussion here in the last month or two about "stagnant listings" on eBay. Some have said 30 days, others have suggested 90 days. I do not know what the cut-off time is, or if there even is one... all we can do is speculate.
BUT... I have had great success with a strategy suggested to me by the brilliant @gurlcat: end listings that have been up for more than 30/40/50 days, wait a few days, and then re-list them using "SELL SIMILAR" (vice "re-list item").
I have about 2000 listings and have been doing this regularly, with about 50 items at a time in bulk, since last October / November 2024.
The results have been impressive... indeed, for me, unprecedented.
I make sure to include those items with watchers, who I used to think of as having magical powers but who I have more recently come to regard as little more than vultures (no offense to vultures).
True story: I had some NOS Italian dinnerware for sale at the start of the year. Priced reasonably at $90. (Others were charging double for the same items in used condition.) Several weeks go by, and I accumulated about 9 watchers. I had lowered the price to $69, and still no buyers. Everyone assuming I am desperate to sell, presumably, and waiting... for what? To save another $3.99?
I ended the listing, and did a "sell similar" (with no changes whatsoever to the listing) of the item a few days later, priced at $89... and bingo, the dinnerware sold later that evening. (Actually, the buyer messaged me at 9:45 pm to ask if that was my "best price." He then bought the item shortly afterward. I did not have a chance to reply to his message and of course did not bother to do so.
And as a result of this increase in sales using the "sell similar" tactic, I have been deluged by eBay with the ability to make offers on dozens of items I have listed. There seems to be some synergistic connection there, a result of the mysterious algorithm, no doubt.
Something for you perhaps to think about, if you are so inclined.

100% correct. It's like the old AA saying. It works if you work it but you gotta work it everyday.

Very sluggish sales, still getting some so thankful for that!, Times are Bad & it does not look good moving forward, Sales will most definitely start going to needs & not wants, I can only hope i'm wrong, But prepare for the worst as they say.

For the last three weeks (what a coincidence) sales have been beyond horrible. I list daily, promote, send offers, and offer free shipping when possible.
I personally think the chaos is having a terrible effect on business. I just did a comparison Jan 1-Feb 14 2024 with this year Jan 1 - Feb 2025 and my sales are down 45%. That is not JUST the cost of eggs. My impressions are way up, but that is all.
At least half of the people who were our customers are holding off in my opinion. It isn’t that complicated to see, and yes, it is very disturbing.

Always such a mystery when the land of Maui burns and investors like Blackrock come in and buy it.
But what would you know about that, you live in a bubble.
Can someone translate that for me?

I think you’re right. Even if only some people are too scared to spend money, if those people made up the bulk of your customer base, that’s a problem. I feel like I’m in the same boat, so what I plan to do with my tax refund is to invest in higher value items, to appeal to people who are more “immune to economic shock“ (as fbusoni put it).

Nobody is buying right now. I sell high end electronics and I haven't had a sell in 7 days. Normally I get at least one or two a day. It's really bad.

I am not sure who isn’t buying..but it does have a “trickle down” effect. Regardless of who you are and your financial status I think there are those people who thought “everything would be fixed”. ( I always chucked at our local next door forum and all the comments about how things would be great the next day…I left because it made me ill to read..I can only imagine what they are saying now) so those people are not shopping…then there are the rest of us…yes we had to put in a new water softener and reverse osmosis last week..however random purchases we are not making. Frankly it is a very far reaching situation in my opinion…

Natural disasters have had a minor effect, but it is also tax time. I am not concerned. My sales have been down, but I use it as a mini vacation to get away from the hassle for a few days or weeks. I also have so much inventory it helps to get caught up and organized. This is not my main selling ID.

We are downsizing. Sales have slacked off 40% according to my seller hub and Only two sales this week.
Time to do something different and new. Hang in there everyone. Happy Valentine's day!!

Aren't you trying to say it's Trump's fault? Some still go there when, in reality, it isn't. People have to blame someone for their own self-made problems. It gets old.
