IMHO the best sellers deliver what they promise.

If a seller's promise includes next day shipping rather than same day shipping, that in my opinion would not preclude that seller from being called one of the best.

I have gotten fantastic service from sellers who ship next day, second day, or even a week later. I have also gotten terrible service from sellers who ship the same day.

Not necessarily.  While that is your opinion, many buyers understand that handling time is involved, and they are not in a rush for their items to be shipped.  It's really not that big a deal to many buyers, so while that is your idea of the Best Sellers, it isn't their idea of what a Best Seller constitutes.

What is more important is for the seller to ship an item that is as described with an accurate description as to condition and any flaws.  

Many buyers just want their widget, what they bought, in a somewhat timely fashion, and as described.  Buyers who are in a rush can be problematic.

Exactly!  In the scheme of things, shipping the same day does not make that seller a Best Seller.

I just pack and ship ASAP when they pay.Otherwise my work area would be stacked with boxes creating clutter.

AND if one uses usps it also depends on what time they pay, for scheduled pick ups.

Same day shipping allows for weekends, federal holidays, and here in Canada rotating strikes.

EBay also had made allowances for environmental disasters like hurricanes and tornadoes.

What happens if a buyer buys multiple items? How do you combine shipments if everything is pre-packaged?

Probably not that serious an issue when he only has 3 items listed.

With only 3 listings that is not much to pat yourself on the back for.

I would like to see you doing this prepacking with 2K plus listings that take 2-3 large boxes to ship in.....LOL

Same day shipping is nice. I often do it, but do not offer it.

I have no idea when my power/internet may be out.

Late shipping/not meeting handling time is not a good thing to have on your seller dashboard.

Same day shipping can interfear with other personal commitments.
