I'm a top rated plus seller (one-day shipping restriction) with auctions AND fixed price listings. I have never used vacation settings before--someone has always shipped for me--and I am going to be away for 5 days. According to eBay site, the auctions will continue to run which is fine (and won't have to be shipped until I return) but fixed price items become invisible if I put store on vacation mode, thereby removing the one-day shipping/handling requirement for TRS. I called ebay to confirm this, and talked to a rep, Jose, who said he was "glad I called" about this question. He stated that the info on the eBay site is WRONG and that you cannot hide your listings by putting your store on vacation mode. Items still visible, still available for purchase, I'm still required to ship within one day unless I relinquish my TRS status while I'm on vacation. He said eBay is under NEW MANAGEMENT and they are working on fixing some of these issues, but that to keep my TRS I need to BULK EDIT all of my items and change the handling time to when I will be back/can ship--otherwise I'll get slapped with defects and lose my status. Has anyone placed their store on vacation lately, and have their items become "invisible?" Is this guy for real?

Thank you dhbookds for the test and now we know if a fixed price listing is in a watch list or bookmarked items cannot be purchased when you hide them.

OMG "Jose" is clueless lol. I used my vacation settings this month when we had a snow storm & hid them since I didn't know if the PO would be able to pick up

Do yourself a huge favor don't listen to CS, wrong as always is what Jose is
come here for answers, the posters know more about this site then CS does, Sad to say
See my scrren shot , when you place your store on vacation important to check hide & block purchases.
I wouldn't extend 5 days
Place store on vacation but it's up to you to hide listings so buyers cannot purchase
If you place it on vacation & don't hide listing then you risk late tracking upload & shipping unless you extend handling time to 5 days, Not a great idea because buyers want things fast & may not pay attention to it.
If you time your auctions to end after you get back that works, unless you get questions that you can't answer because items are not with you
http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/placing-store-vacation.html#making
Make sure to check hide in store vacation settings

He's wrong...........HOWEVER.........the advice is correct for extending the handling time... Even tho items are hidden.....people can get to them thru book marks and buy.........and you will be held to the handling time in the listing......
I recently did the handling time thingy because of weather problems.........only took a few minutes and peace of mind was worth it........just don't take the chance......

@dhbookds
would love to test it
will you work with me.
If I go on vacation will you try to buy something?
Throw one of my items in watch list & bookmark
If it works we will just cancel.
Because
I think this was proven by Posting master that even if in watch list etc, it doesn't work anymore to purchase.
Was advised that glitch was fixed
Again I was in canada more then 1/2 the summer last year with my store on & off vaction, never extended handling time or got purchases.
but if OP wants to change it , that's up to them

Thank you everyone. Of course, I wasted more time by calling again because we all know "different rep, different story". HIDE while on vacation is still available. Jose' did not connect "make my items invislble" with "hide my items"!!!!! Really? And yes, I definitely planned auctions to end after I get back.
I've actually seen sellers make an auction "listing" with a picture of a sign that says the store is on vacation and items will be back in a few days, telling buyers to come back then. I mean it's only a few days, but I'd hate to have a $4000 item sell and not get that 20% FVF because I couldn't ship within one day! These CSRs need to get their acts together.

yes, I've read that also.........but don't trust it........lol
yes, I'll test................will be out this afternoon and doubt you want to do it today......so perhaps tomorrow morn?

So are you saying that if I decide to change handling time on all 400 of my items, and someone has one in their watch list, the watch list item will still have one-day handling on it and I'll be penalized?

@dhbookds
Yep sounds good
throw one of my items in watch & bookmark now.
In morning I'll go on vacation , then when your online give it a try
Feel like ebay would never be able to answer this & just want to see
Just like the help page says if you have IPR in listings they can still buy.
Again never happened all last summer to me.

Please post results of this "test." Should be enlightening. Thank you!!

Hi no dhbooksds & I are going to run a test in the morning, because rumor has always been if you hide your items but a buyer has your items on a watch list or bookmarked they can still purchase
one poster said that is not correct & they tried to purchase something on a watchlist from a store on vacation and it would not work
so dhbooksds said they do both extend handling time & hide when on vacation , so there is no chance of any issues
We are going to test it in the morning
If you do both your covered for sure
We will let everyone know the test results

This is the message you get if you try to purchase an item that's on your Watch list, if the seller has their store vacation setting on 'Hide."

Thanks PE, I don't remember actually seeing that before.
Does the same message come up with a browser bookmark? I'm so dumb about computer stuff......I would presume it would but have you seen that tested?
Another, mudane, question...... I was looking at a US seller who I think (not sure) has the store on vacation, but he may have canceled it. No feedback is showing on his feeback page despite 300 sales listed in the "month", more in 6 month and 2000+ in year......no indication of naru, he is TRS. Can't think of another reason that that might happen. ??? Hesitate to ask as he's upset about a number of things...and just an idle "why" curiosity on my part...... Any ideas?

Thanks , glad you found this post. it's like you always find certain posts ![]()
I knew you had the screen shot but wasn't taken chances since it isn't my store or dashboard at risk
I just know with all my vacation time last year I had no issues with just hiding my fixed price

If he's on vaction, his still will have the on vacation message, whether his items are hidden or not.
