Re: SSN

Since this was done through and for the payment system: it is going to be on file with them.

I doubt even closing your account will make it go away for some time....

Even the payment and refund will have to be kept as a record..

Re: SSN

Agree, my guess is eBay will retain it for whatever time period the IRS requires.

Re: SSN

Yes, you can hire an attorney who can try to get a judge to remove it for you.  I would guess it is a flip of a coin if you succeed or not.

Re: SSN

Hi @nokraj_0

I was under the impression that sellers only needed to provide the last 4 digits of their SSN until they started selling a high amount.  If that's the case ... you shouldn't have to be concerned about anyone misusing it ... IF you can't get it removed.

Re: SSN

Do you think it will show up as income if I refunded the person before I shipped it?

I think you may be confusing the 1099-K requirements with the bank account verification process.

eBay/Adyen cannot file a 1099-K with IRS based for a taxpayer based only on the last 4 digits of a social security number.

Theoretically, it should;  Whereupon you would deduct the same amount when you filed your income tax........

If it's $20 I wouldn't bother about it........if it's $5000.........I'd fill out the form and use refund as the reason for the deduction........

Re: SSN

Ok I will check if I put the 4 digits or all of them I want to ask though if I never received a payment to my linked bank cause I refunded the buyer will I still recive anything on my taxes( the sale was 365$ my only sale of the year ) I won’t recive a 1099 because I haven’t made more then 20,000$ Or 200 transactions correct?

Hmm I believe such is a yes, but could be wrong:

but of course your loss (refund) would of course off set it if so..

Re: SSN

Some states, by next year, will require federal tax if you have sold more than $600, you should be ok.

Re: SSN

@luckythewinner

I  remember reading several posts recently that stated when sellers are first invited to join MP ... they only needed to give eBay the final 4 digits of their SSN.

Since the OP appears to be new ... I assumed that's all they needed to provide.  Is that not true?
