@cyberontix yeah, know those replies too. Point I was trying make is essentially that more then likely there isn't anything wrong with ones listings, it's whatever they messed with internally that creates these issues right after a quarterly update, but to say "what" it is - well, who knows, could be one tiny thing or could be everything they did, we just don't know. I ain't eating Ramen yet (though I do, in fact I always have some in the house lol).
Lol I know, I was agreeing with you there, I just threw in the comment about tone-deaf "contributors" while I was at it. They should remove stupid replies like that automatically, they're always from the same couple of people every time. All it does is make people who are having difficulties even more miserable.

SAME! It had FINALLY picked up and I had a decent weekend....then ZERO yesterday and nothing today. I know my store and we never have zero sales. I've been selling full time on eBay since 2010, we average 8-10 a day. Other platforms are not tanking like this. eBay continues to screw with things and literally every other day theres major issues. This has to stop. We need to demand transparency.

Could not agree more, especially when paying for a store subscription which is extremely costly and then they turn the switch off,.there needs to be better transparency, same goes for other platforms. They have their issues as well but none do this off on off on thing like ebay is doing.

Yes! I've been listing a ton more than usual and my prices are lower than the next guy with the exact same item. I'm sure some aren't for long after other sellers see mine and adjust. In any event, my sales have been hideous for a couple months and I can't figure out why. I use a lot of item specific keywords and my listings are showing up in a ton of searches but sales have been so bad. It's driving me crazy.

🤣
Not so funny for the 10's of millions of lower income families struggling every day with the forementioned.

Same for us! We've been selling on Ebay since 2001... this is the slowest ever!
11-13-2024 03:59 PM
exactly the same for me.
11-13-2024 07:09 PM
Yes, totally. For me it's started SUDDENLY mid summer and still going on. I was asking the same question.. why so slow

Yes, I hear you. Feedback stopped too. It is depressing. It was FUN before to sell on eBay. But now.. my inventory is just sitting and not moving at all.

There are something like 20 million sellers on eBay.
At any given time, there are thousands or millions of sellers have better than typical sales.

Pardon me, I probably missed something important. What is implementation of AI?

@jasoheat_0 wrote:yeah same here , i sell more elsewhere now , cross post there are many platforms to sell on , my sales locally are thru the roogf , and i sell cheaper and make more money , ebay is not the only game in town , i still sell here but nowhere near the top of my list anymore ... good luck
I wish there were someplace else for me to go.
*sigh*
Alas, I have chosen a path with very, very limited sales paths ...
for me, this is the only girl at the dance.

Over the summer (I'm sure it started much earlier, but the big push was over the summer, right about the time things went sideways for a lot of sellers), eBay started putting in place artificial intelligence (AI) in a very big way to supposedly improve site functions and sales. Unfortunately AI is still in its infancy and lacks the intuition or understanding of real humans.
So, for example, AI is now being used to confirm that the scans that are supposed to be made by actual human postal workers (who are quite fallible) are actually made. When the scan isn't done, AI alerts the eBay system and a seller is given a defect for not uploading tracking on time. I know this for a fact because I personally spent the better part of a week trying to reach a human to point out the scan had been missed and the defect needed to be removed. I spoke to nine different people until I finally reached a human with normal intelligence who could see from the tracking information that the first two USPS scans had been missed entirely by the postal worker, but the package had gone through the system normally and been delivered on time. The customer service agent removed the defect immediately.
In another instance, regarding a neutral feedback that had been received, the AI "decided" the feedback didn't violate policy and bounced back a message saying it wouldn't be removed. Again, many phone calls later, an actual human took a look at the transaction, the communications between myself and the buyer, and immediately removed the feedback.
Finally, all of the weird search issues we're having, such as messed up sorting, items being missed in the searches, and incorrectly advertising for items as the "great price" item when far less expensive identical items are available are the direct result of poorly functioning artificial intelligence. The AI is sorting according to an indexing system that doesn't appear to be compatible with the manner in which it functions. A million years ago when eBay began, databases were created and items were indexed according to the terms in the thesaurus for that database. Over time the databases have grown and the indexing has become increasingly more complicated, but it has still basically worked reasonably well until recently. In eBay's attempt to pare down the need for humans and become more efficient, it has implemented an artificial intelligence system that is still in its infancy. That system is supposed to be better than humans at creating and maintaining this system, but it's just not there yet so our items get lost in the abyss and the gibberish that has been created.
AI is here and it is the way of the future, but right now it pretty much sucks. Watch Joe Rogan's most recent conversation with Elon Musk (one of the pioneers of the movement), and you'll see it takes even him four tries to get the AI that he himself is using and working on four tries to get the system to do what he wants it to.

Everywhere I try to sell is dismal now. Even shipped a box full of items in for an online auction. They start everything at $2.00. Of 34 auctions, 27 sold. 22 of them sold for $2-7.00. Nothing was higher than $13! I had 21 1964 Topps baseball coins in 1 lot. I figured they would go for about $40. Sold for 1/3. Really disappointing. I thought I would join each auction for extra income. Discouraged from trying that again. After their % is taken & due to the shipping cost, I take in less than $70. Marketplace has been awful, too. Selling $5-20 items shouldn't be so difficult. Especially if they are new & Christmas is approaching.

My Sales have dropped in November as well. I'm down $4,000 at the moment from last year. I knew it would be crazy around Election time. I know eBay may be doing upgrades that could be affecting things. But it's also heavily due to the outcome of the Election. People are not spending money. They are trying to figure out and understand what's about to happen with Finances. Is it going to get better or go south. People can say all day that our Economy wasn't doing well. But I'm proof that it was for most. Most of all our Customers who Seller's on eBay sell to are middle class. So what happens when you try and take the middle class away? We all have consequences. Especially for us sellers. My Sales each Year Month over Month for the last 3 years has been up. This is the first Month in those last 3 Years may sales may be down. People just started losing their Jobs and Christmas bonuses just over the past few weeks. I don't think we can put all the blame on eBay. Small Business Owners everywhere are freaking out on what's about to happen. We know how COVID took us all backwards. Most Buyers could be feeling that again. If our Middle Class don't survive we won't. And it won't be eBay fault. I've never experienced a Decline this bad when Ebay has updated there system. I do feel this is far more different. We just have to keep the Faith and keep moving. Once we stop we kill the system.
