SCAM! Beware!

Unfortunately, as there is no way to call Ebay Customer Service as an option in the HELP section, I Googled a number.  I was surprised that an "agent" picked up right away. I was trying to get assistance making a Second Chance Offer to a bidder, and the agent told me I had to get my account verified before I could do this. Although I told him I was sure my account was already verified, he told me I had to download Anydesk.com, and I would receive myriad benefits from Ebay for doing this.
When I realized what Anydesk was, I hung up the phone.
BEWARE: you will be giving complete access to your phone and your computer (including passwords) whomever the "agent" is!

Re: SCAM! Beware!

What search terms were you using on Google?

Scammers often put up fake web pages using free hosting services, and then buy ad space on google or other search engines that are linked to certain keywords. Users searching those keywords get the ads mixed in with the legitimate results. Phony "eBay customer service phone number" pages have been common, particularly since eBay makes it so difficult to contact customer service directly.

If you spot a scam ad like that, report it to google using the link on the search results page. Some free web hosting sites have a report link that can be used to report the fake page -- that is often the quickest way to get the page taken down if you can find it.

Using an ad blocker in your browser may block search engine ads. Otherwise you should take care when choosing which search engine results to follow.

For sites like eBay, you may be better off going directly to ebay.com or bookmarking a page rather than relying on a search engine to find the site.

You can use the Help & Contact link at the bottom of the page to reach eBay. Use the "Contact us" link and follow the prompts for your issue and you should eventually wind up on a page with a chat option. Choose that, and the last option that appears in the chat window -- use the "See more" option -- should be "Contact an Agent" to request a call-back if you are in North America.

It is a whole lot older than the web - 'If it's in print, it must be true'.

Not saying 'NO' doesn't mean 'YES'.

The foolishness of one's actions or words is determined by the number of witnesses.

Perhaps if Brains were described as an APP, many people would use them more often.

Re: SCAM! Beware!

How or who would you report that number to ?

It i really is something that I have seen quite a few on these boards get screwed with.

Surley a number on google that is registered to someone through a 'telecom' povider would be taken down and the number discontinued if reports were made?

Most people don't realize it's a scam until it's way too late -- the scammers have everything they wanted and probably more, and if they only get 100 people to fall, that's enough to be profitable for the day or two it takes for them to be reported and taken down.

The number is generally overseas and often nothing more than a VoIP connection.  Harder to trace, harder to truly shut down.  These sites are like cockroaches - step on one and three more run out from the baseboards.
