Revising Listings

If I revise a listing, for whatever reason. Does it affect where it is placed in the search. If I end a listing and sell similar it treats it as a new listing. Is this the same when you revise a listing? I am wondering if it is better to end a listing, make the changes and sell similar, than it is to simply revise a listing.

I don't think revising has any impact on search, etc.  I do think it's better to use sell similar.

That depends very much upon what you change in the listing and what search is being performed.

A listing's placement in Best Match searches depends upon the listing and the search criteria. So if you modify the listing, you may change how well it matches the search terms and thus where it is placed.

That aside ...

There is no easy answer to your question about revising vs. relisting. Best match is a complicated scoring algorithm, and it could go either way. You may also lose watchers.

For instance, if your listing is getting a Best Match boost from having a good sales history, then relisting it may lower your placement.

But if your listing is being punished for being listed a long time with low views and no sales, then relisting may improve your placement.

What @luckythewinner  stated.   I can't say for certain if there is re-indexing that occurs with a revision, I personally believe there is, but I think it may depend on what you're changing (ie; price or description vs. something like handling time or offering another shipping method).

Sell Similar will treat as a new listing & you will lose your watchers & aggregrate stats (views, impressions, etc).  Modifying the listing or 'relisting' will retain some or all of those.   Which is better?  It really depends on too many things to cover here.  I will say that Ebay's SEO wants you not to end & Sell Similar.  Most of the experts say it will 'hurt' you.   I will also say that is not my experience.  BUT, I think it very much depends on if you sell one-offs or thousands of the same widget.  Different SEO strategies apply.
