Request to use PayPal

I listed an item and a potential buyer offered me considerably more than I was asking.  He then asked if I accepted PayPal.  I was a bit confused but I said yes.  He then asked me to "send a request to his PayPal ..." with his email address.  The message was in a image -- not text.  I eventually declined to accept the offer.  It seemed extremely suspicious.

I went looking for a way to report this but since no transaction occurred, the user interface doesn't seem to allow me to report the issue -- or at least I couldn't figure out a way.

Does anyone know what the "buyer" was trying to do?  And can anyone direct me to a proper place to report it.

The scammer wanted your Pay Pal email so they could send you a fake email saying that you had been paid.

They were hoping you would ship the item before you found out you hadn't been paid.

It doesn't do much good to report them, they just open new accounts.

This is a common scam and you were wise to decline.  If there is EVER another question, and you're not sure, check in here - we've heard just about every danged scam you can imagine.  This person is probably trying this on because you're a new-ish seller.

Well, that "buyer" was trying to scam you. There is no place to report it either.  Over fifteen years ago there was a choice buyer paid with or attempted to use fake funds.  But, it's long gone now.

eBay provides buyers with everything they need to pay. Never a need to contact the seller.

You would have received a fake Paypal email saying they had paid and the funds will be released once you'd sent the item.
