Request to Cancel

Just wondering....in the past week I've had three bidders bid early on items, win the items, and then send a request to cancel.  I've been selling for 25 plus years and only had a few requests over the years.  I cancelled the sale on a jacket that the buyer thought was a woman's (when it was listed in men's).  The second one gave no reason and Ebay automatically closed it, and I just got the third last night...reason..payment method???  Is this something new or just another rubbing of salt into the wound of record low, low sales.  Also, had two customers file return requests just before the 30 day deadline. Ugh....feeling frustrated.

Re: Request to Cancel

I have a few comments.

1. I cancelled the sale on a jacket that the buyer thought was a woman's (when it was listed in men's).

If it was the varsity sweater, it's only the category that lists it as mens. The title and description don't mention "men's" at all! Personally, I infer that "cardigan" is women's department. For men, I'd be more apt to call it a "button down sweater."

Put "men's" in title and description! Buyers don't always look at the category.

Also, regarding the sweater, you state that it's sold "as is" multiple times. You are aware that the buyer can return (per your return policy) or as NAD anyway, right?

2. Why do you do auctions? Make your listings FP/IPR and I believe buyers will be less apt to cancel. They still may file returns or cancellation requests but FP/IPR will prevent the sport bidding.

3. Also, had two customers file return requests just before the 30 day deadline.

I assume this is just a vent since you have a 30 day policy allowing them that amount of time to return.

I can explain it to you but I can’t understand it for you.

Re: Request to Cancel

It was not a sweater it was a suit jacket.  The other item was a hat (last night) and a pair of shoes.  None of them was sold "as is."  I guess this option to request a cancellation after the auction replaces the non paying bidder?
