I never had a negative feedback left until now. I was selling a item and for the 1st time it said payment on hold. I was not willing to send a item before Christmas and wait for the buyer to release funds and then wait for ebay to pay me. I apologized to the buyer and just c Angeles the transaction because something did not feel right to me. Weeks later she leaves negative feedback that this seller is a rude person? All I did was cancel the order. Does anyone know why feedback can be left for a transaction that did not occur? I will not loose sleep over this though I think it is unfair that after 400 positive listing someone leaves a negative for a listing that never was sold. Any help I would appreciate it. Thanks

Looks like you were the bad person you did earned the neg FB. You can only cancel a transaction at the buyers request. Chalk it it up to a lesson learned
The neg should be the least of your concerns. You WILL receive a defect on your next seller evaluation by eBay - 'cause you didn't ship a paid for item. Look for it around the 20th of the month.

Maybe eBay put the payment on hold for some reason unknown to us. Most usually if an item has not been paid for, you can close the UPI case shortly after the two day waiting period.

From one of your active listings:
”Please do not place a bid if you are using Ebay to hold funds for up to 30 days.”
All payments go through eBay now, and the more you sell and cancel, the closer your are to eBay suspending your selling privileges.
You need to either take down your listings, or ship when eBay tells you to ship and accept that your payments will be held for a while while you prove you are a legit seller (not looking good atm)

Might wanna read up on that . . . there's no such thing as a "UPI case" any more. It went away almost a year ago.

FYI: It is now more like a four day waiting period. After 4 days with no payment, on the 5th day, the seller can cancel, check "buyer did not pay".

Thanks for your reply. I still don't understand the hold on funds asI just sold the same steins last year. Yes I do agree I do not do much with Ebay anymore and this may be a reason why. Who would want to wait any amount of time in hope a buyer you do not know will release funds? I never has a issue ever shipping any item as I always ship using a tracking number. And I honestly do not know the difference in 2021 Bier or beer in a listing? Thanks for trying to explain though I will just accept her feedback and move on in life. Thanks

Thanks for your help. I will loose no sleep over trying to do the right thing anymore. 400 plus positive transactions and I am suppose to wait for payment that may or may not come? Ebay had a good thing at one point though that does not seem to be the case anymore.

THE BUYER WASN’T HOLDING THE FUNDS. EBAY WAS.
Yes, you’ll accept her feedback, because it was truthful. And you’ll accept the next person’s feedback too, unless you learn how eBay works.

Did you read the link I posted in Message #7? It explains holds on sellers' payouts. If you didn't read it, you might want to do so now. Here's another page that may help:
You haven't sold anything for a year or more. Pay special attention to the part that very clearly explains why your funds were held by eBay (not by the buyer):
To help ensure eBay remains a safe place to buy and sell, and to meet our legal and compliance obligations, we sometimes place a hold on funds, for example, if there's an open case or dispute on a transaction, if your buyer reports a problem with the order, if your account is restricted or suspended, if you owe eBay money, or if you're a new or infrequent seller. If we placed a hold on your funds, we'll notify you by email and, depending on the reason, may request additional information from you to help resolve the issue.
Additionally, we may place a transaction hold on funds depending on your seller status or the category you're selling in:

Well, the OP stated he used "problem with buyer's address" as the cancellation reason, so they skated around the defect. My understanding is it only results in a defect for out of stock reason. (correct me if I'm wrong).
Still, I have a feeling eBay knows when these sellers are using the wrong cancellation reason. Could be the buyer also reported them.

This is the 1st time I ever came across money being held. As this was just before chrismas I though it was some sort of scam. If this is something Ebay does do now with everyone then I will just stop using Ebay. I do not sell much though did always pride myself on shipping the minute the item ended and everything went priority with tracking and never had a issue. Now I see buyers can not even leave negative feedback for buyers anymore. I guess it just time to move on. Thanks for your help. To many fees anyways. You would think Ebay would want to keep decent sellers happy so they continue to list and pay them fees?

But you didn't do "the right thing." That's what many of the members posting in this thread are trying to explain.
@jws1217 wrote:400 plus positive transactions and I am suppose to wait for payment that may or may not come?
Most of your feedback ratings are for buying, not selling. Are you suggesting you have over 400 positive selling transactions?
@jws1217 wrote:Ebay had a good thing at one point though that does not seem to be the case anymore.
eBay still has "a good thing" if sellers (and buyers, for that matter) keep abreast of the policies and procedures. A seller can't really blame eBay if the seller is the one who wasn't aware of current policies.

Check yourself before you wreck yourself.
The buyer paid. eBay sometimes puts their payment on hold if you're selling from an account with no recent activity. Your handling time begins when eBay says awaiting shipment. The payment is released when tracking shows delivered, or in 21 days if there's no tracking. You can't wait until 21 days to ship. The faster you ship with tracking the faster your payout is released.

----------------------------------------------------
you have 64 feedbacks as a "seller"
62 of them are over 1 year old.

eBay eliminated negative feedback for buyers over 13 years ago. I think your plan going forward is the right one.
