Regarding Feedback

I read many posts that suggest not leaving feedback until the buyer does so.  I also read contradicting opinions so I am well aware of others views on this.

My question is this:    If I leave feedback before a buyer, and the buyer turns around and leaves me a negative, do I still have a chance to respond to that negative feedback if I already left positive feedback?  OR, does my leaving feedback first, leave me without recourse should a negative be left?

You can still do a follow-up, which are actually very important and should be carefully thought out with future buyers in mind.
