Refund requested for disclosed defect

I've recently got a refund request for an item because of a broken battery latch.  The description stated the latch was broken and there were 2 pictures of the broken latch with 1 of them taken just to highlight it.  The auction was set to no returns.  Would it be too much to ask for the buyer to pay to ship the item back?

@vgamesnstuff - If the buyer is currently being reasonable with you then asking them to pay for return shipping will most likely push this into a negative experience. I'm sure your listing showed the broken latch, but many people purchase using their mobile phones and the eBay app doesn't show the entire listing very easily. It's quite easy for a buyer not to be able to see and read the full description, so they could have missed it. This isn't about you doing anything wrong so try to make this now work in your favor.

You need to think about how much it will cost you to simply send them a return label. If you get your item returned you can sell it again and raise the price to make up for the label. It also depends on which reason they select for the return case. If you upset your buyer by making them pay to return, and they open an INAD case, you will HAVE to pay for return shipping, it will remain a mark against your account, and you will most likely receive negative FB from the buyer. All that because you didn't want to send a return label? Only you can make this decision so just really give it some thought and do what you think will work for you. Best of luck to you....

No, you can ask them to do that. But if they open a not as described case you’ll have to pay return shipping.

Would they win a not as described case when it was described and photo'd as such?

Yes because eBay offers a MBG on every item sold. The sole purpose is to make every buyer have a good experience so they are guaranteed to receive a full refund if they end up unhappy and claim INAD....

I would first ask the buyer if he saw the photos and description stating the latch was broken before he bought it.

If you get it back and relist it I would put in the title that the battery latch is broken.

I would tell them that the defect was disclosed.  I'd call ebay and explain it. If you get a case, I'd upload the pics and quote the listing. I'd call ebay and show them how the listing discloses it.

Ebay will rule in your favor. Fight it. I would. I have, and I've won. I've also gotten the feedback removed if need be.
