Receiving Feedback...

Hi All:

I've been selling on Ebay for about 2 years now.  I call myself a "hobbyist" and simply like to resell any interesting finds or stuff that is collecting around the house. In my estimate, I've sold probably 200-300 items and have a 100% positive feedback rating.

However, the majority of my customers do not leave feedback! How do I encourage them to do so without being pushy?

Re: Receiving Feedback...

I always add a thank you note with the item, reminding them to leave positive feedback and thanking them in advance. I used to send them message after delivery also requesting feedback.
But you don't want to annoy them . It is also optional not an obligation. we can't do much else.
also, no feedback is better than Negative one.

There are a few buyers who will consider any attempt to remind them about feedback to be "pushy".

What is it that you need the additional feedback for?

Re: Receiving Feedback...

You don't.  Just leave it alone.

Old Board saying:  Never poke the sleeping bear.

Some just won't bother, but it could be the transaction was problematic but they just don't want to give you bad feedback over it.  If you push for feedback, they may decide to share exactly what was wrong.

Or you might simply get:

HERE'S THE FEEDBACK YOU BUGGED ME FOR.  (Bright red, of course!0

This actually happened and has been posted on this Board by other posters as well.

I understand your frustration, but it will come.

As has already been suggested, don't.

Your f/b is 100%, which is as good as it gets.  An extra # on the total is utterly useless, all you can acomplish that way is making it less than 100%.

And... unless your buyer has opted out of such notifications, eBay is already pestering them to leave you f/b if they didn't.  I wish I could turn that off, another f/b and $1.89 will get me a bad cup of coffee at the Quickie Mart.  Sending anything else is going to look (even more) pushy.

Simple is better. eBay never gets any better.

Hi, Ted:

I could be wrong, ( wouldn't be the first time!) but I thought you could opt out of sending your buyer those feedback reminders?

Hello Ted,

I buy a lot on eBay but I do not get emails from eBay to leave feedback to the seller, but I do get emails from eBay asking me to leave feedback/review the products I bought. I don’t remember opting in or out of anything. (?)

Re: Receiving Feedback...

I recall two situations that fit this scenario, where not leaving feedback is to the seller's advantage.

A seller contacts me, pointing out she left me positive feedback; please do the same for her.  I emailed her saying that I very intentionally did not leave feedback as I did not think you wanted your potential buyers to know you sent a rare, fragile, vintage porcelain figurine in a poly mailer.

Another seller contacted me, same message.  I replied saying that I did not think you wanted potential buyers to know there was significant undisclosed damage on this piece, and the I listed it all.

Apologies in both cases.  Now you can see what might have happened if the buyer felt pressed to leave feedback expressing what they REALLY thought of the transaction.

Re: Receiving Feedback...

From one seller of mine, NARU now, who apparently didn't give up. He ASKED for it! His other FB was all fine so I bought from him...

Well, we all could be wrong, a lot, because eBay constantly changes stuff and doesn't bother to tell any of us.  But last I knew, the only opt out for feedback reminders was an opt out the buyer could select.  I can't stop them from going out, but the buyer can stop them from being received.

Payment reminders is the one sellers can opt out of.

Hello Ted,

I get those too.  I don't like them (product review reminders).

The feedback reminder selection is here, way down near the bottom.  Mine is set to "None", so I don't get feedback reminders.  I still don't see any way for sellers to turn them off though.

There's a lot of stuff there I don't remember seeing before (you have to "show all" to see)... some of it, I don't even know what it is!  "Item did not sell coupon"?  What is that?
