Received notice of unauthorized payment after 1 month after buyer received item from me.

I have a buyer who claimed his purchase was unauthorized and made a claim through his bank even though he received the item a month ago and I have tracking to prove it. No response from him when it was received to say " I got this package from you that I didn't order, should I ship it back to you?" Nothing nudda, just a shock of a claim going through 2 days ago. Will he be allowed to keep my product and get the refund as well?

The buyer could have simply not recognized the debit when balancing their account. I’ve done that before but thankfully figured it out before embarrassing myself or creating work for someone else.

just make sure you respond to the complaint, including demonstrating that the person both bought it and the item went to their address.

Please make sure, you have a valid online tracking information and proof of dispatch with you. eBay or Paypal may require it to resolve the claim.

No.

As long as you have tracking that shows delivery and you shipped to the address of the Paypal payment, you are covered.

If a credit card is lost or stolen or compromised, all charges within a certain time frame are disputed.  The buyer may not recognize the id on the payment.

No need to worry, I have had quite a few of these in the last quater, make sure that you respond to the paypal claim and enter the tracking # and shipper in the fields provided, your seller protection will kick in and you will be whole, provided of course that you shipped to the address that printed from the ebay sale.

I always follow up with a call to PP and ask them to check if the funds were put on hold, if they were, politely ask them to credit your account under the seller protection agreement, they will do so.

I just had this scenario on a $4500 product, the funds were grabbed by PP but replaced within seconds following my call, never heard another word from anyone, case closed.

I got one of those Unauthorized Purchase notices a while back; the buyer had even left positive feedback! I messaged the buyer and she never responded.  I called Paypal, made it clear she not only received the item but left feedback,  and they said they were investigating, but never heard back and no money was ever taken out of my account. So her claim fizzled.

Delivery is not necessary to win an unauthorized claim charge. All they require is proof that the item was shipped to the payment address.

Have you responded to the claim?  If not you should right away.  I assume they filed the claim through PayPay.  If so, make sure you put in the appropriate information into the claim, tracking number, address shipped to or anything else you may have to prove your case.

Then tomorrow CALL PP and talk to them about this.  If you shipped to the address on the PP payment, you should be covered under Seller Protection [as long as you meet the other requirements too].  This is part of why we pay fees to PP, it isn't just to process our money, it is also to have some protections.

Before you call, verify that the address that appeared on the PP payment was also the address on the Ebay purchase record.  If your buyer is saying it was an unauthorised charge that got delivered to their address in Ebay, then either their Ebay account was hacked too or someone in their home did the so call unauthorized charge.  So compare those addresses, that could be some very important info to share with PP.

Isn't that pretty much the same thing?  If tracking shows the item was delivered, that means it was shipped.  And if it shows the item was delivered to the address on the PayPal payment, that means the item was shipped to the payment address.   That seems like proof to me.

No it’s not the same thing.  Yes if it was delivered it was shipped but it being shipped doesn’t mean it was delivered.   A seller only needs proof it was shipped they don’t need proof it was delivered

While delivery would also win against unauthorized it’s not what is needed to win.  It only requires proof it was shipped to the address in the PayPal transaction it doesn’t have to show delivered to it.

It being delivered means yes it was shipped so showing delivery works.  But it was being clarified it doesn’t have to show delivery it only has to show shipped. Just because it was shipped doesn’t mean it was delivered but delivery isn’t needed

Re: Received notice of unauthorized payment after 1 month after buyer received item from me.

Thank you for clarifying this, I have provided proof of shipment and delivery since the tracking provides that. Thank goodness both the PayPal and Ebay addresses match and that is where I sent the package. PayPal has released the funds to me, but have said the investigation could take 75 days. I believe and I could be wrong that the bank has already released the funds to the buyer. I hope not because this could easily be some scam. How does someone other than the buyer get his password and order stuff and the buyer receives it without questioning it? I have still not heard a single word from the buyer concerning this matter, even though he would now have my information. I had even given him positive feedback.

The buyer will likely get a refund but you won’t pay for it
