I just received the following message from Ebay:
Let's get you back on track. We need to verify your eBay account's phone and email.
Keeping this information updated helps eBay create a safe marketplace. Please verify your phone and email by Jan 23, 2023 to continue receiving payouts.
I clicked on the button to do this and all it did was ask me to sign in with my prefilled password and then it says it was finished. There was no area that showed my phone number or e-mail. Does this mean I completed everything? Should I call Ebay to make sure I did everything correctly?

Back when I only had a cell, signed up for a free Google Voice account to receive text notices.

Absolute insanity.
Send that code to my "VERIFIED" email address so that I can verify that the phone # that they are showing as my provided phone contact #.
That phone # that they have called me at before to annoy me with stupid offers.
That phone # that they use as a call back # on the few occasions that I have requested a call back in the past 21 + years.
Provide a cell # that I do not have ? Absolute insanity.
Over 10K sales on eBay, and was hoping to make some more, but eBay is making that difficult.
Next step. Ban the use of a Mac or PC on eBay. Require everyone to use a mobile device for everything.

devon@ebay ...........I ask again......will we/do we HAVE to have cellphones to sell here.........I get one time codes all the time sent to my email address....... I'm not trying to be horsey about this........but if we have to have them, seems like we need to know that.........

Or mail me a verification code to my registered address via USPS.
Even if I had a cell phone I would not want it attached to eBay in any way, shape, or form.
I must adapt or perish. I am circling the eBay drain.
A local grocery chain has taken the "cell phone registration" process to be able to get weekly discounts. They no longer get any money from me.

And the most insane part of this is............................ they display the registered # that needs to be verified, but provide no info/feedback on how to possibly verify it when it is attempted.
We must come here to the "community" to drag that info out, and are provided with an illogical process to verify that which has already been provided on numerous occasions.
Absolute insanity.

Wait, that wasn't the most insane part after all.
Think about this.
What sense does it possibly make to provide an unverified cell phone # for sending a verification code to when attempting to verify a previously confirmed/in use/registered phone # ?

Mailing a code to my registered address via USPS wouldn't work for me because when I signed up for Managed Payments they forced me to change my registered address to a physical address that doesn't receive mail ... all my mail goes to my PO Box which they wouldn't let me use as a primary address of registration.
If they make me give them a cell phone number I'll give them the number to this old flip phone that won't work soon because of the 5G thing. They can text till the cows come home because this phone doesn't do texts ... and I don't do texts because trying to look at that tiny screen and type on that tiny phone just doesn't work for this girl who learned typing on a real typewriter ... LOL.
And I have to ask ... just whose bright idea was this to want everyone give eBay a cell phone number? As a mom I would like to ask them "Just what were you thinking?"

@dhbookds You will need a cell phone for us to verify any selling account.

Thanks Devon............that's a straightforward answer...........going to be a number of people who won't be able to be verified......I would suggest that you pass on a suggestion that ebay inform sellers of this..........

Very interesting. Does eBay plan to make an announcement regarding this? That to be an eBay seller a cell phone is required? Does eBay plan to withhold the payout money for those active sellers without a cell phone indefinitely?

@ittybitnot For anyone that is setting up a selling account for the first time they would not be able to list items until we can verify the account via cell phone and/or email.

I don't see why ebay can't email a code. Most places now, including banks etc, ask if you want the code texted OR emailed.
Why is it that ebay always only has ONE way to do anything? Always their way or the highway it seems.

lol.........I doubt any established verified members for whom you have SS, bank accounts, credit card #'s, etc and to whom you already do payouts.........would be complaining except that you now require them to have CELL phones.

That's one step in the right direction, but it would seem more effective if you treated ANY new seller (or returning seller) as you do our newbie friends in Sri Lanka.
They don't get to list anything until they'll been verified for Managed Payments (as the Sri Lankans have to do with Payoneer).
I only mention this because the whole scenario of allowing people to list and sell and THEN holding their payments hostage is not a "good look" for ebay.

Just got my notice to verify on my other account this morning & have a question
Think I read on this board a while back that same email or phone # could not be used on multiple accounts so---
Will I need to have a separate email and/or phone # to verify second account?
