I just received the following message from Ebay:
Let's get you back on track. We need to verify your eBay account's phone and email.
Keeping this information updated helps eBay create a safe marketplace. Please verify your phone and email by Jan 23, 2023 to continue receiving payouts.
I clicked on the button to do this and all it did was ask me to sign in with my prefilled password and then it says it was finished. There was no area that showed my phone number or e-mail. Does this mean I completed everything? Should I call Ebay to make sure I did everything correctly?

Thanks for the reply. I will give it a bit more time, but the real issue here is................................... why does eBay IT not have this coded to automatically handle this verification situation?
Other sites have an automatic verification reply process where you are either called, emailed, or messaged with a code to submit proving that the contact information provided does indeed link to the customer/account. Perhaps it is the case here, and I am the exception to the process.
All completed ...................... generally in a minute or two.
No time wasting action required by a "customer support" employee. No eBay employee man hours wasted on the process. No loss to the eBay bottom line. Perfect example right here. You had to take time to respond to a "situation that should not exist to start with".
Now I may have to take time to contact "support" using their valuable time to possibly get a solution. Meanwhile I sit here on "time away", not selling because eBay can not verify the telephone # that is on file, which may result in not being able to have funds transferred to my checking account.

but still no verification of the phone number that was provided to eBay in 2001. The same # that I have had for over 34 years that has been provided to eBay multiple times throughout the years , and is linked to me via my name by an internet search
Hmm... 34 years? So a landline?
I would not be surprised if that is the problem. A lot of the new identification is done with texts which cannot be used with landlines. A point which escapes the Bright Young Things who set up these programs.
Apparently the first text was sent in 1992, and texting became widespread in 2001. Which were 30 and 20 years ago.
I am old and cranky.

I have the same problem. Called and was told that you must provide them with a cell phone number by the date in the message or you will not be paid. Hope this helps.

Why would they assume that everyone has a cell phone? That goes beyond stupid! Just like asking for a passport ... what makes them think everyone has one or even wants one.

I agree. I do not have a cell phone, nor do I need one. The eBay agent basically said I had to purchase one or I would be unable to receive payments in February.

@mozartbach1971 Exact same thing happened to me yesterday. Yet another request to verify from a few days prior. I went in to do it yesterday. It required my password & as soon as I'd entered my PW, it said "thank you for verifying", but it never had me verify anything LOL! I posted about it in another thread.
I don't plan to do anything. It's obviously a glitch of some sort, but my info hasn't changed in 20 years & they got it again for MP & yet again for KYC, so I'm not going to do anything.

Are you saying that we will need to provide a cell phone number? I have my landline phone set up as the phone number. I do have a cell phone however I don't think I ever game them the number.

Yes, I was told I had to have a cell phone so they could text me for verification.

So the reports here from CS are wrong............when they say we will need a CELL PHONE to verify information (message 18, 24).........?????

Not what I was told when I called today. I was told I needed a cell phone so they can text me. I have entered my home phone twice already and I am still getting the message on my account to verify it. My phone number on the account is correct and the same one I have used for all 23 years with eBay. Please verify the correct info so I know what I actually need to do. My email was verified. I do not have a cell phone.

@dhbookds Based on the message that OP shared about having to update information, it would have to be a cell phone since it is a one time code that is texted to the member.

So, what you are telling me is that eBay will not let me sell next February if I do not purchase a cell phone capable of texting in order to get paid. Why can't they call a verification number like every credit card, etc. I have? I would like an explanation as I do not need an expensive phone in order to sell on eBay only!

While I do have a cellphone (and keep the number written in a little address book) I find this insistence on texting presumptuous.
It's most annoying to me that our local transit company has removed schedules from bus stops. Instead riders are told to phone a number they have posted for arrival information. If they had stopped to think, buses are heavily used by old people and poor people who are the least likely to have phones. If BCTransit can afford to post a sign about texting, they can dang well afford to post a schedule. It should be and/or not inaccessible.
