Received Message To Verify Account.

I just received the following message from Ebay:

Let's get you back on track. We need to verify your eBay account's phone and email.

Keeping this information updated helps eBay create a safe marketplace. Please verify your phone and email by Jan 23, 2023 to continue receiving payouts.

I clicked on the button to do this and all it did was ask me to sign in with my prefilled password and then it says it was finished.  There was no area that showed my phone number or e-mail.  Does this mean I completed everything? Should I call Ebay to make sure I did everything correctly?

@mozartbach1971

Yes, we had to do this last Friday.  As we have duo on our login, it took 2 secs for e-Bay to verify both the email and phone on our account.

Good luck - easy peasy.

Re: Received Message To Verify Account.

were you asked for a photocopy of your drivers license or passport though?  I was and am VERY hesitant to give that information to a company which has a lot of security breeches.  TWICE last year my account (along with several others) were hacked and fake cell phone listings were posted.... AND I DO NOT SELL THOSE.  It was a nightmare!  What's to stop a hacker from getting more personal information once they hack into ebay?

It would be a little harder to hack Ebay and get any information, then it would be to hack personal accounts.

Want to wish everyone a Safe and Happy Independence Day.

Re: Received Message To Verify Account.

It also asked me for my ID (Driver's license).  It says to release "Held Payouts"....does this mean I won't get any payouts until I upload my ID?  This feels like a government agency!

Re: Received Message To Verify Account.

I got the Verification Messages on 1 of my 2 IDs today. The emails looked very suspicious but the same messages were in My Messages Inbox here. One asked for Phone / eMail Verification and the other for Passport, License or Government Issued ID Card.

To be safe I contacted CS to verify these were legit as I have had this account since 1998 and haven't had to jump through these verification hoops for the account to remain active. CS confirmed it was necessary, but couldn't explain why this is now an issue. I think it would have been nice to at least have something in the Seller Announcements that this was going to be upcoming and not something that looks like a phishing scam.

Oh well - sent in my info to keep the hamster wheel turning!

Re: Received Message To Verify Account.

Yes they will hold payout until you upload.  I was uncomfortable with that and also I did not think it right that they state you have til Feb 2023 to do that or payment will be held. However they held payment immediately which contradicts their message. It is a computer that verify so make sure your name address matches up. I heard they have 48hrs to review and take hold off once they verify.

Re: Received Message To Verify Account.

I guess in a way it is.

EBay is required to send a 1099 form to sellers who GROSS over $600 in payments annually. This might help confirm that the IRS is getting information about the right person.

If eBay doesn't feel comfortable with the identification they will Hold your payments. And after six months, as I understand it, that money will be sent to your State treasurer and you will have to go there to reclaim it.

With so many people worried about hijacked accounts and identity theft, I think it's a good thing that eBay has started doing random verifications to keep MP on the straight and narrow.  While PP has an excellent reputation for security and we don't know enough about Ayden* to have formed an opinion, financial operations are always going to be a target.

I contacted CS to verify these were legit ...CS confirmed it was necessary, but couldn't explain why this is now an issue.

Were you on the phone?

The phone reps work for a sub-contractor out of Utah.

The social media Chats are run by eBay employees who are well trained and have some authority.

Nonetheless, explaining  why might be safe enough, until an honest member shares eBay's reasoning with all those reading these Boards, and some scammer learns  how to circumvent the published information.

*Since Ayden is in the Netherlands, I would assume it works under the EU's very tough standards rather than the more loosey-goosey North American rules.

Re: Received Message To Verify Account.

Any progress with your verification? I received the same two messages as you. I am waiting and my payouts are held. Very upsetting.

Re: Received Message To Verify Account.

I got the email, the eBay message, and the red banner on my account to update email & phone.

Clicked to verify the email, and phone shown.

Got the "thanks" .............................."Done", but the banner is yet to be removed 5 days later.

verified 11-3-2022.jpg

Did see that they would work on verifying the info.

I put my ID on "time away", as I have no desire to sell/ship any more things that the funds may be held on while eBay verifies the info.

Try clicking to update again. I see that the email is verified. Seems logical. That's the email that I provided, and the email that they sent the message to, and the email, and phone # are those that I have periodically verified many times.

So 5 days later I click on the banner "update" link again. What I see is that "verified" for the email, but still no verification of the phone number that was provided to eBay in 2001. The same # that I have had for over 34 years that has been provided to eBay multiple times throughout the years , and is linked to me via my name by an internet search. Why, oh why is it not verified by eBay. Seems like one way should be an automated reply to send a code to that # for me to provide as verification. Just have to code it out to happen. No action needed by an eBay employee to complete the action.

As it turns out, for the moment at least, (knock on wood) my "weekly payout" was  sent today. Will remain on "time away" until that message is gone. No FVF's for eBay.

"Once the process is complete" eBay can start making money from me again.

devon@ebay  what is going on at eBay? Can it possibly be that hard to verify a phone # that has been registered with eBay for 21 years, and verified many times in the past?

Re: Received Message To Verify Account.

Odd thing is...............   the red banner doesn't show in the one "seller hub" view (the limited info one), but is there in the "seller hub" view that I use.
