Question for sellers

So yesterday, I found a pretty expensive item that I wanted to purchase. I need it for an event, so I asked the seller if I could pay extra to have the shipping upgraded to express or 2nd day. The seller was unwilling, so I moved on to another item that I liked almost as much. That seller immediately upgraded the shipping on the listing and I checked out. Win-win, right? The seller made a sale, I get an item I need to receive fairly quickly.

My question is, why would the first seller be unwilling to upgrade shipping when I said I would pay for it? Is there some downside for the seller I don't know about? It just seemed strange that the seller preferred to forgo a decent-sized sale rather than accomodate the request.

What say you?

Seller: If you don't leave me favorable feedback that helps grow my business by promoting trust in my ebay brand, then I won't leave you a useless green dot that benefits you in no way whatsoever! Me: Okay, you've got a deal!

Re: Question for sellers

While shipping may be tax free, it is not fee free.  Seller would be paying fees on the total amount that buyer paid including shipping. Don't know if there is a discount on special services but those extra fees could cut into any profit.

As I said, it's based on cheapest shipping method if buyer chose a more expensive option.

Final value fees on shipping
Final values fees on shipping are based on the cost of the shipping service the buyer chooses. However, if you offer 1-day or international shipping as well as a cheaper or free option (like domestic shipping), the final value fee is calculated based on the cheapest domestic option you offer.

If you only offer 1-day or international shipping but no cheaper option like domestic shipping, you'll be charged a final value fee based on the service the buyer chooses.

If you're in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, or Vietnam and your item isn't located in the US, final value fees on shipping are always calculated based on the shipping option your buyer chooses.

Re: Question for sellers

I had a buyer who wanted me to switch the caps on some bottles, keep the one that she didn't want and would pay the same amount.  I didn't answer the email and Blocked.  I also ended the listing.

Sellers don't want to bother with fussy buyers anymore.  I stopped doing special orders because I would make them and then they would say they didn't want it.  It cost me money to do it and I ended up losing money.   Also, 9 times out of 10 it ends in a return or fraud.

Re: Question for sellers

Oh me either.  That's a bit of a paranoid response on their part though.  That is unless it was a size type thing(shoes,  rings,  bracelets). I'd have to be more in the loop.  A seller has to take a chance at times too.
